11 Kids’ Toys We Wish We Had Today

Have you ever found yourself jealous of your kid’s toys? Do you wish you could play with them yourself? If so, you’re like me. I recently walked down a toy aisle and was struck with envy. Some of the best toys from my childhood seem so fun to play with, making me think I might have to ‘borrow’ some of my kid’s toys.

1. Nerf Toys

Nerf toys were awesome when I was a kid. But how much more awesome would they be for adults? This new generation of Nerf guns is more advanced than the ones we had in the 90s. Some shoot 20 foam darts at a time. I can imagine coming home after a happy hour with your friends and having an epic Nerf fight without your parents yelling at you to stop.

2. Legos

Legos might have been my all-time favorite toy when I was a child. The other day, I was walking through a department store and came across the Lego section. I instantly felt nostalgic and jealous. Some of these new Lego sets are much cooler than the ones I grew up with. I saw Lego sets for Star Wars Millenium Falcons and Darth Vader helmets. There were complete Marvel sets, custom muscle cars like a 1969 Ford Mustang, globes, and national monuments like the Statue of Liberty. I might put one of these sets on my next Christmas list.

3. Hot Wheels

I wish I had my old collection of Hot Wheels cars. Not because they might be collectible, but because they’re so cool. I would love and appreciate them much more as an adult. Would I still play with them or put them on a shelf and just admire them? I want to say the latter, but there is no doubt in my mind that I would find myself playing with them.

4. Barbie Dream House

I asked my significant other for advice on this article to avoid filling it with everything my inner 10-year-old boy would like. According to her, the Barbie Dream House was on her all-time wish list of toys. Having a full closet, vehicle, and all the accessories from the house would fill her with all the joy she had as a little girl. I imagine many adults feel the same way about this lineup of Barbie products.

5. Action Figures

We had action figures when I was a kid, but with the success of the new Marvel franchise, I can’t help but want to play with some Avengers action figures. I loved these superheroes as a kid, but Marvel movies were yet to be made, so the action figures weren’t as popular. I can only imagine the epic battles I could have had with The Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man.

6. Remote Control Cars

Have you seen how advanced some of these remote control cars are? Some of them go up to 50 miles per hour! When I was a kid, mine were usually attached to a wire, so I had to follow them around. Also, they were so flimsy and cheap that they broke almost immediately. These new high-powered RC cars are super fast and built to last. I guess I could still get one, but it wouldn’t be the same without the enthusiasm and excitement of driving these things around as a 12-year-old boy.

7. Slip N Slide

One of the best days of summer was when my dad would set up the Slip-and-Slide, attach the garden hose, and let me and my friends risk breaking our necks sliding around the slippery plastic mat. My dad never decided to join us, but these days, I want to set one up at our next barbecue and go sliding. Look out, kids! Next time the Slip-and-Slide is out, my fellow dads and I will be charging down this thing.

8. Cross Fire Game

This game was on my wishlist as a kid, but I never got it. The amazing commercial with its catchy song was why I wanted it so badly. The game involved shooting metal BBs across a slick surface, trying to shoot your pieces into your opponent’s territory. Shooting metal beads still sounds fun as an adult. If they still make this game, it could be a great drinking game for you and your buddies.

9. Erector Sets

Like Legos, Erector Sets have been helping kids become engineers since the early 1900s. The kits came with gears, pulleys, cranes, and even electric motors. How cool is that? I could spend hours making little machines in my garage. I might have to pick up a set and start tinkering in my free time.

10. Water Balloon Launcher

How much fun would it be to start an epic water balloon fight with your neighbors? We used to have a launcher when I was a kid, and it was always so much fun blasting my friends from across the street. Summers would be much more fun as adults if we took the time to act like little kids again.

11. Puzzles

It’s true that puzzles have always been toys for kids and adults, but they’ve gained new life in the adult world thanks to the pandemic. Puzzles are more fun as an adult because they’re more challenging and creative than when I was a kid. Some are pieces of art, while some are even in 3D. I guess this is why more adults are rediscovering puzzles.
