Bob, I'm not sure this is the right place to post such a question, since it's pretty far off the topic of HD DVD recorders.

You might want to post your question on the Western Digital support forums:

Hi there. I have a problem with an external Western Digital USB2 drive. It has become corrupted (Due, I believe to me unpluggin before parking)and I am now trying to repair it.

When I turn the unit on, my PC sees it (G drive) but tells me that it needs to be formatted. I then go throught the motions of formatting the drive (NTFS), but then, after some 4 hours of formatting, it reports: "windows was unable to complete the format".

On somebody elses advice I even used a Western Digital tool to low level format the disk, and then tried to format properly again - but still, same problem.

I'd appreciate any help you may be able to provide. Thanks very much.

Oh ...I am using Windows XP SP2.
