gumstix pcThe oh so small netstix series of computers from gumstix are full-fledged Linux systems in the form-factor of a pack of gum. Now the maker has announced a significant speed bump from the earilier 200MHz processor to a new Intel XScale 400MHz processor.

The tiny computers have 64MB of RAM and 16MB of Flash memory on board. In addition, they feature onboard 10/100 Ethernet for connectivity and a Compact Flash-II slot for non-volatile storage. The 400MHz netstix 400xm-cf runs just over $200 USD. BTW, no onboard video capability is provided, so you’ll have to manage these servers remotely via Ethernet.

    linux vs.windows webhosting.???
I wondered which should be used for dynamics sites using flash css javascript forms etc.
I was looking at this companies corporate plan and would like to have the option to set up several seperate websites for different customers
assigning each an allotment of space with seperate access by them and allowing me access is this site suitable for my needs or is it as it seems just too good to be true???

Flash, JavaScript and CSS really don’t care what sort of server they are on.

Linux vs. Windows web hosting should be decided based on what language (if any) that you’re building dynamic server-side pages with. So if you’re using PHP, Perl, Python, Rails or some other open source framework, you’ll want to go with a Unix/Apache shop. If you’re using ASP or ASP.Net code, definitely go with Microsoft IIS hosting. If you’re only using client-side technologies like the ones above, it doesn’t really matter.
