I don't quite understand the contrast ratio on this set. If I have a satellite network coming in, what contrast am I going to get: 800:1 (typical) or 1600:1 (dcr)?

Maybe I misread Vizio's spec sheet. This is what it says:

Maximum Panel Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Supported Native Resolutions:
1366 x 768, 1280 x 720, 1024 x 768, 854 x 480, 800 x 600

I read that to mean that the panel can accept a 1080p signal (via DVI/HDMI), and then scale it to 1366x768 as the highest Native Resolution.

However, upon further research in AVSForum, it appears that the panel IS really 1080p. Vizio really needs to improve their spec sheet on this one, and just say that the Native Resolution is truly 1920x1080.

Sorry for any confusion.

Uh...how did you confirm that this display is NOT doing 1080p? Are you using the analog VGA input or are you using the HDMI from a DVI source? I've seen quite a few people confirm that it IS 1080p. You are correct, however, that it doesn't accept 1080p over the analog component or VGA inputs (max is 1366x768). You are misleading a lot of people here if you are only talking about the VGA input.

Planning to purchase GV47, looked over CNET's reviews, and this contrast ratio 800:1 is simply terrible. Side by side comparision with Sonys in Costco also confirmed the Vizio's terrible colors. 42" is better according to CNET, but when are they going to offer 1080p on their 42".

Picked up the GV47 010406; Contarst Ratio 800:1 (dynamic 1600:1) is a real issue. Picture is stunning in bright, well lighted scenes. Dark scenes, on the other hand are bad... I mean very bad w/ very little detail. I've tweaked, tweaked and retweaked.

I think the GV47 is going back.

I do not have this unit but am considering it. I have noted in the vendors spec sheet that it does NOT have a native resolution of 1080 but the panel will support it. It also will not display a1080 computer source. I think the Westinghouse and Sceptre models do allow that input. I don't know if that matters to me, but I may want to be able to use this as a giant monitor on occasions with a PIP part of the screen from a computer source while viewing a TV source in the background. So this may not be the best choice for me if I want the computer input to be at the highest resolution. Any thoughts on this?

I saw this tv tonight at costco, and almost bought it. I wanted to look into the other models, but now I plan on going back tomorrow to buy it. :)

My question for Don, if he sees this, is will the TV allow you to directly select the inputs? IE, when I get a Harmony remote, will I be able to program macros to automatically select the proper input?

Hi, I purchased the GV47FHDTV at Costco on 12-31-06 (when they opened) for $1759.00. They said that they had recieved four them after closing the night before. The sales person said they were not aware they were coming. All four were gone by 10:30AM. This set has a native resolution of 1920 X 1080 and a contrast ratio of 1600-1 which is still plenty bright. The set has PIP and all the connection the Sony and Samsung have.

I had waited all year for the Sony Bravia, only to discover that the Samsung glass that they use has cloudes on dim or darker scienes. I have seen this on both Samsung and Sony, yet for those who have the problem nether Sony or Samsung will admit to the defect. The 6000-1/7000-1 contrast ratio that this 40", or 46" has must be a problem. The ratio vould depend on what part of the cloudy screen you measured from. Costco had many of the Bravia in stock for $2799.00. If you want to get sick just read some of the threads on the AVS forum.http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/printthread.php?t=748779&page=5&pp=60

Philips is coming out with their 47" (7th generation glass) with a 1920 X 1080 resolution; and a contrast ratio of 4500-1, this month they have a propriatary contrast system, that after a week of searching, has'nt left me with confidence enough to buy It.

I'd assume the set has at least the same specs as the old 46" model:

http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=9

That set includes PIP among other features. Remember though that you'll need two input sources to use PIP with most sets though.
