SanDisk’s latest entry into the budget MP3 player market looks like it could be a winner. It features a compact design that plugs directly into your USB port, and outdoes Apple’s tiny iPod Shuffle on a number of fronts.

First off, at $59.99, the Sansa Express player is 20 bucks cheaper than the 1GB iPod Shuffle. The player even squeezes in a nice (albeit tiny) OLED display that shows track, title and playlist information. While the Sansa only comes with 1GB of storage, it’s got a microSD slot so you can add on more memory when you need it. It even has a built-in microphone and an FM tuner with recording capabilities. Battery life is rated at a solid 15 hours, and it can play MP3, WMA, Protected WMA, WAV, and Audible file formats. If you’re even considering picking up an iPod Shuffle, you’ll want to give this one a look before you buy.

It’s cool, but I like the clip on design of 2nd gen iPod shuffle better. But I like how this one has a FM receiver built in. That’s the coolest part; since I only use my shuffle to exercise with, I don’t need the screen (if you have time to look at a screen, you’re not exercising hard enough!).
