xbox 360 elite price, release date confirmed

The Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite has been confirmed by Microsoft’s resident Xbox guru, Major Nelson. The new model will feature a 120GB hard drive, HDMI output and a new black case, all of which have been rumored for some time. Unlike the PS3, the 360 Elite includes an HDMI cable in the box, so you can use it right out of the box.
Pricing has been at $479.99 for the new model, and the release date is set for April 29, 2007 in North America. Other markets should get the updated console a little later in the year. To go with the new model, Microsoft will offer black versions of their wireless controller, headset and a charge-and-play cable. No other black accessories are planned at present.
At the same time, a 120GB hard drive upgrade for existing Xbox 360’s will be available $179.99 (rather expensive, if you ask me.) The standalone drive will include a transfer cable and software to copy your data from your old 20GB hard drive automatically.

[UPDATE 7/11/2007: This just in... For all of my European friends, The Xbox 360 Elite will be released in Europe on August 24, 2007. Pricing will be about the same as it is in the U.S., around £237/€350.]

Hmmm.. xbox360 sounds a lot more expensive than ps3 now, considering still no hd-dvd and has to pay for xbox live.
Yea, still not as good. I do have to say, I like the improvements. HDMI is nice, 120GB is also nice, but what about HD? What good is an HDMI if I still have to go out and buy the $199 HD-DVD drive? The games are all put on standard DVD’s. At least with my PS3, my games are on Blu-Ray. That is why it has an HDMI port. I think the only thing I like is the fact it has a 120GB HDD. I do need something to play Halo 3 on and that is why I will be getting one. I’m just glad it will match my PS3 as far as color. lol…

well ya but when my 360 broke it only took a week to get back and when my ps3 broke two days after it came it came out and im still waiting for it to be returned
The 360 Elite sounds nice and all, but what about the HD/DVD drive. I would have to spend another $199.00 for that external drive. I think Halo 3 will drive sales of the 360 elite anyway.
This is bullsh*t. Microsoft waits a year to let out a better version of the 360. Now everyone that bought a 360 isn’t going to buy the Elite because they have already spent 400 dollars on the first one. I want the sales to suck so Microsoft learns to never do something so stupid again.
guys i got a 360 and i’m gonna get the elite but wtf why is their no hd they should make another version with built in hd i will pay 4 it i just don’t want that stupid external blu-ray drive..

Microsoft hasn’t announced an official UK release date yet. However, my educated guess is that they’ll hit shelves sometime in the late Fall, say October or so.
the elite looks hot but ya having no hd kinda ruins it but i think i’ll still trade in my 360 for the elite and just pay off the rest
I have a 360 and I will buy an Elite because the PS3 is the biggest system I have seen. Both of the two systems are bassicly the same except for Blu Ray. But then you have to buy blu ray movies. I’ll pay 120$ less to buy an Elite instead of a PS3.

XBOX 360 HAS AN INTEGRATED HD DVD PLAYER !
There is no current or announced version of the 360 with a built-in HD DVD drive. It’s only available as an add on.
the elite sounds good but the price dosent and cmon NO HD.after paying for the premium and xlive the bpack its sucks that us loyal xbox customers hav to pay even more.HOPEFULLY THEY COME OUT WITH A BETTER VERSION THEN THE PRICE CAN MATCH THE CONSOLE
people with a 360 already – go to a nearby compusa and buy their 2 year replacement service plan (called T.A.P.) for 45 bucks,. wait 30 days for the service plan to kick in, after that go to there customer service and say its broken, they’ll give you 399.99 plus tax in store credit to get a new one (they dont try to fix it all) , pay the difference for the elite (less than a hundred bucks) and you’ll be fine. its much better than thinkin about payin another 500 bucks. it doesnt matter where you got your original xbox from, just be sure to have your 360’s serial number.

I think thats the only problem is the price. Besides the black finish and the huge 120gb there isn’t mush to it. But either way ps3 is going to get a big kick in the @$$ by micro when “HALO 3″ comes out. Im sorry to say this but thats the only game i would ever have sex with.
At least the 360 gives you a decision on whether you want to spend the money on the hd-dvd drive instead of forcing a crappy blu-ray player like the PS3, and when you think about it once you add into the equation that the 360 has alot more features than the PS3 i’d much rather pay the $600 for the 360+hd-dvd. So when it all is said and done the 360 comes out on top as the superior console.
The Blu-ray player in the PS3 isn’t crappy at all. It’s actually quite good, and unlike the HD DVD player for the Xbox 360, has a true digital HDMI output.
That said, the 360 is still a better console all-around in my opinion.

That’s ugly! The 360 looks much better in white, this would mean if you want everything to look good you gotta re-buy everything. & what about that noisy, noisy fan? Has that been improved? & why is it that we in the UK have to wait 6 MONTHS AFTER THE US to get one? Thanks Microsoft, I feel loved!

does they could atlest fix the bugs for the elite i think a lot of the bugs come for the downloads that you cat always gey rid for all the little bits of data like they need to put so kind of disk cleanup porgram for the xbox 360

I know alot of people are mad about microsoft releasing this after everyone paid 400 for the premium not too long ago , but when I heard the news of the elite I just sold my premium for 350 on craigslist and bit the 50 plus tax to pay for the elite , don’t be mad ’cause you didn’t think of it ha !

I was a previous xbox 360 owner and sold it just prior to ps3. I now am a ps3 owner and in my opinoin it is ok, it does not have as good of titles out compared to the 360. And the online play, even though it is free it sucks. Every game is no good online compared to 360. I am now going to rebuy a 360 os likely the elite when it comes out!!

Fellow Gamers do not be mad about no hd drive. would you really want to risk money on a drive that might lose, speaking about blu-ray and hd-dvd. Why buy a movie in hd, when very soon you will be able to download it into your hard-drive. I already rent movies on xbox live in hd for 3 dollars without going to blockbuster or net flicks. Sure the selection isn’t mind boggling yet but it is growing. Its the second seller of downloadable movies and tv shows next to itunes. Microsoft and Apple have a good idea about downloaded content instead of hard cover content. I still want certain movies in dvd hd or not but only the ones that really mean something to me (for example lord of the rings or star wars). Sony soon will take this path and sell movies in hd on playstation online too. So i would think twice about getting a player. downloadable media is the next step and if you disagree thats cool because im saying what i believe will happen. My beliefs could be wrong and i know that, so i dont need any name calling, a simple state of opinion is just fine.
dude…i got a premium, but c’mon, the hard drive of 2 PS3’s, it runs cooler, i dont care much to play HD DVDs, and Blu-ray, in my opinion, just a glorifies name for HD, i see no differance, besides PS3 clearly loses the console war to begin with considdering the fact that for every one sold, Sony loses $800 dollars, which means no price drop and less sales, here are the real console war results:

Dude, it’s black, has 120GB HDD, has a lot of the bugs worked out, runs a hell of a lot cooler, oh and did I mention it’s black? What else could you really want? HD DVD drive vs Halo 3. Hmmm. Halo 3. That’s what God made DVD players for anyway. The XBox 360 Elite is by far the single greatest console ever made to date.
As much as I’d love to believe that the Elite has improved on the hardware of the 360 (i.e. bug fixes, noise reduction or better cooling), there’s no concrete evidence that the Elite has any of these benefits.
Microsoft will only confirm that the Elite has the bigger hard drive and the HDMI output. No other hardware improvements have been confirmed.
I am waiting patiently for the XBOX 360 ELITE to be released in canada. I was consierding a ps3, but the 360 has halo 3, fable 2*, and gears of war. all great games. i hope the elite is what is brought up to be and i hope i get my hands on 1
funny … everyone slags off sony for making a console that costs to much then microsoft do the same thing and theres praise .i also hear alot about halo 3 kicking ass when it releases but everyone seems to forget one game cant make a console and if it does then thats one boring road if u ask me. to many games will be coming out at the same time as halo it wont make the impact u think it will. plus 3 little letters and a number “MGS4″

I feel everyone frustration at the price and the new system…but we are technophiles and we know things like this happen. The day I validated the release of the Xbox360 Elite, I sold my Xbox Premium system with various accessories including the External HD-DVD drive (sweetened the deal and made it look worth the asking price) to an audio/videophile friend….you know the guys who mod-ed their old Xbox to play DVD on a home theater system. I sold the system, HD-DVD drive, and an extra controller for $600 to my friend. The Elite ($479.99) with extra controller ($49.99) and new HD-DVD drive ($179.99) (yes the price had gone down in my area) will run me about $709.97…I already have extra controllers (2-white ones) for my guest…the wife and I will use the black controllers. All of my other accessories work just fine…the white batteries…for me it’s cool. I’d recommend everyone stop whining and sell their old system to offset the cost. Also the recommendation to get the warranty via CompUSA…I do it on every product that I can…I’m not sure why they allow it…but let’s just say I get new product every couple of years and all I do is pay for a new warranty and sometimes get extra money back if the cost has gone down. Don’t claim to be a true technophile if you don’t know the technology game…you’ve got to be more savvy outside the console to keep the good stuff rolling (unless you’re rich…hahaha). Life…Cast the spell!!!

I think that Microsoft came up with a good idea with the 360 having 120 GB in all but why would you need all that space, do ya plan on downloading 1,000 cd’s on it!
Actually, if you plan on downloading high-definition content like videos and movies, it’s essential. Even Sony is talking about amping up the PS3’s hard drive. I’ve seen an FCC application for an 80GB drive for the PS3, and lately I’ve been hearing buzz about a 200GB drive too.
Both Sony and Microsoft want us to download plenty of content from their online stores. The only real difference at this point is that the Xbox marketplace is actually usable and has tons of content, and the PS3 online store sucks.
