philips livingcolors led lights: prices and dates revealed

A while back Philips showed off these gorgeous color-changing LED lighting fixtures as part of a media event. However, up until now, there was no information on how and when we mere mortals could get our hands on these cool device (unless we lived in the Netherlands.)

Philips LivingColors LED Color Changing Lights

According Le Journal du Geek, the Philps LivingColors lights will be released in Europe by the end of this summer for a price of 149 (which works out to about $200 US.) They’re expected to launch in other countries later this year.

Each compact light can push out 16 million unique colors, all of which can be controlled via an included wireless RF remote that can even work through walls. You can set any remote to control up to six fixtures simultaneously, keeping their colors in sync for a truly dramatic effect. The unique organic design embeds a colored projection source into an egg-shaped glass orb. Since it uses some seriously bright LEDs, Philips designed a special heat sink into the lamp that looks more like a work of art than a technical necessity.

Another thing that really strikes me about the LivingColors fixture is that it provides both ambient and directed illumination, letting you splash color across a wall at the same time as providing a source of visual interest wherever you place the fixture.

I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these for my house.

whene can I buy your lamp in Canada or US?

There are plenty of these up for sale on eBay:

Keep in mind that these are the European version and require a small plug adapter for US outlets (only costs about $2 bucks extra).

There’s no word on when you’ll be able to buy an actual US/Canada version yet.

Wow!I mean everything from PHILIPS is cool. And same like the ambilight TV.Is changing colors of the screen color.I didin’t know hot to say,but anyway PHILIPS is the best,

Not quite as cool or good looking as the Phillips LivingColor, but there are one or two other remote-controlled color changing LED lights out there. For example, ThinkGeek has one for $50: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/831e/

I’ll be really excited when these become more mainstream. In the same way I wire my house for speakers in different rooms, I want to be able to program and control the lighting. Phillips also sells larger intelligent lighting systems that do this, but I’d assume that they’re expensive judging by the fact that you have to call a sales representative to get a quote.

These things are SOOO much brighter than the cheaper ones you can find at ThinkGeek. The Philips ones are well worth the $ if you really want color on your walls.
