tokyoflash barcode watch: back in black

Technabob favorite TokyoFlash revealed their latest ultra modern digital watch this week. Previously available only in Japan, their Barcode Black watch features a dramatic black case with a solid black stainless steel band.

Four columns of bright blue LEDs dot the front to tell the time in Tokyoflash’s typically offbeat way. Each LED in column one translates to five hours, column two shows one hour increments, the third column shows ten minute intervals and the last column shows single minutes. So the example in the picture above reads “10:15″. It’s actually not that difficult to read once you get the hang of it.
The Barcode Black retails for ¥21,900, which is about $178 dollars here in the States.

What amazes me is that these are called futuristic high tech watches, but with the tons of LEDs all they can give you is the time and sometimes the date. And when they di give you the date you have to push another button. To me a high tech watch would give much more like the temperature, compass heading, stop watch, etc. With all of those LEDs they could give a lot more info even without pushing buttons. Looks like high tech look designed by a low tech person
Agreed. I’d even like to have a GPS in my watch if they could figure out a way to cram it into a small enough package.
