Magicwheel: 20 Mph on a Single Wheel

July 23rd, 2007 by: Technabob

This dramatic looking mode of transportation is said to be the modern day replacement for the skateboard.

magicwheel

Using a single large bicycle (or I guess that would be unicycle) wheel in front and a smaller caster in the rear for steering, it lets you achieve speeds up to 20 miles per hour, simply using your own leg strength to kick off.

According to the inventor of the wheel (I always wanted to say that,) its designed as an alternative to skateboards, scooters and roller blades, and is a great way to get around quickly. While it takes a bit of getting used to balancing on the wheel, it’s supposed to take just a couple of hours to get the hang of it.

Magic Wheel is accepting pre-orders now for £119 (appx. $245 USD plus shipping.) They expect to start shipping a fresh batch of them this August.

I doubt that will ever replace a skateboard….

  2. Carrot says:

That is the oddest thing I’ve seen, but doubt it won’t blow up haha

  3. taylor says:

if the road is wet at all i’m pretty sure you’d get a rad little mud from your feet to your crotch.

  4. BW says:

This would look even cooler if it did not use a ‘shopping cart’ wheel on the rear.

  5. joe says:

skateboards are a culture, they’ve actually become less efficient- smaller wheels, less resiliency- and far more popular over the last decade.

This could be the next razor scooter at best, but with a steeper learning curve, that would be a stretch.

  6. MadScott says:

Nice on smooth surfaces…how does it handle cracks and bumps and other destabilizing terrain?

  7. the inventor says:

Thanks for the comments, yes the back shopping cartwheel is terrible, but it is clean on wet roads (I don’t know why but it is), and it is ok on bad surface as well, just take a look the films on our website. (http://www.gauswheel.com) +We will have a new film up there in a 1-2 weeks.

    Thanks for the comments! S.
by the way we decided to changed the name to gauswheel.
