This add-on for the Nintendo DS not only lets you play MP3 files, but it lets you run tons of homebrew games on the portable console.

Datel Gams N Music for Nintendo DS

Datel’s Games ‘n’ Music plugs into the DS and gives you an easy way to play custom games and apps on the DS and DS Lite. The $30 add-on even comes with a CD loaded with 25 mini-games to get you started. It also bundles a video converter that makes it easy to transfer media clips to your DS too (there’s a bundled USB cable to make transfers painless.) While it only comes with 128MB of storage, it’s expandable up to 2GB thanks to a Micro SD slot.

Available from TotalConsole, the Games ‘n’ Music costs $29.99.

Or, for those who happen to have a Wal-Mart nearby, they *could* consider checking them out.
I picked up one of the Datel Games ‘n Music cards at the local Wal-Mart today (after Gasp!ing on sight) for a nice and friendlly $19.99 :)

  • 2. AppleX  |  August 20th, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Yes I picked mine up at my local Best Buy for $35 because I could’nt find it anywhere else. I toyed around with it for awhile and I figured out how to run commercial roms, but I have seemed to forget how I did it >:( for anyone who’s thinking about purchasing this product don’t bother. Yes it’s good for mp3’s but it’s homebrew support is poor

  • 3. lawrence  |  August 22nd, 2007 at 11:49 am

how did u run commercial roms on the games n music card.

  • 4. Zach  |  August 22nd, 2007 at 5:47 pm

lol AppleX thats the worst lie yet, hahaah XD games n’ music says right on the box and manual (if you read it) it says it can play videos, mp3, and “HOMEBREW GAMES” it never said anything about commercial games lol :p

  • 5. Malik  |  August 22nd, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Zach, you are one heck of a S.O.B.

To work commercial roms, use dashroms dot com.

Trim the rom with nds rom trimmer 0.2.

    Run it with DSO 2.9.

    There you go.

  • 6. technabob  |  August 22nd, 2007 at 11:17 pm

..not that we’re advocating copying commercial roms here, right?

  • 7. Izy  |  August 23rd, 2007 at 9:18 pm

    umm Malik… that didnt work…

  • 8. Lina  |  August 23rd, 2007 at 9:57 pm

wait… are you saying Games n Music CAN play Commercial… DS ROMS?

  • 9. Izy  |  August 23rd, 2007 at 10:23 pm

  • 11. Izy  |  August 24th, 2007 at 7:43 am

I dont understand what Trimming the Rom and Running it with DSO 2.9 does, doesnt DSO only run Homebrew Applications Now?

  • 12. Lina  |  August 24th, 2007 at 11:49 am

that’s what i was thinking.. about the trimming anyways it justs decreases the space used doesnt it?

  • 13. Izy  |  August 24th, 2007 at 5:05 pm

Malik did ur friend like hack a game n remove the code n show u, or did u actually try it out?

  • 14. Lina  |  August 25th, 2007 at 12:43 pm

wait… lol how do you hac a game and remove a code… and what code?

  • 15. Izy  |  August 25th, 2007 at 2:20 pm

The RSA code i think, thats what keeps Games n Music from playing it, since it has the RSA code Games n Music notices it as the security code making it unable 2 be played.

  • 16. CK  |  August 25th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

can anybody tell me, what are the available formats for MP3 and video?

    thanx

  • 17. Lina  |  August 25th, 2007 at 5:15 pm

Izy… lol how can i access this code, or what code needs to replace it?

  • 22. Izy  |  August 26th, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Well i saw somewhere that u could make them run, but it said on Max Media Player, im not sure it would work with GNM.

    1.Download DSlazy
2.Patch the NDS file with DSlazy.
3.Hopefully it works, u need .Net framwork 1

  • 23. Lina  |  August 26th, 2007 at 11:14 pm

it keeps saying nds patch failed…

  • 24. Izy  |  August 27th, 2007 at 6:00 am

  • 26. Malik  |  August 27th, 2007 at 4:23 pm

lolz Rasshad. You did not find this out. Sorry guys, I’ll post a video ASAP when I get the time… Ill put the linky here.

Nice one Lina. Tell us the secret. LOL!! Secret! Golden Lmfao!

The real person who found this out is Dr. sonofaglitch.

Here is the original post posted at JULY 20th and edited to finalize it at AUGUST 3rd.

There is commercial rom loading but it isn’t easy.

You need a shell that supports compressed roms, I wasn’t
sure if MoonShell did, so I wrote one as proof of concept.

    It only supports SMALL games.

My test subject was the **edit we will call the rom just X**, I trimmed it with
a Rom trimmer and compressed it using the Zlib compression format.

The shell MUST be Games N Music patched for DLDI to work.
The ZIP cannot exceed the 4MB file limit, until someone makes
    a hacked firmware!

    X 8 MB
    X Patched 6,042
    X Trimmed 6,000
    X ZIP’d 3,892

Note: Very slow load time, while file is being uncompressed and loaded into memory.

CHISM DLDI PATCH IS REQUIRED. (use Version 2 one)

You could also stream the file via bootloader
OR Load via a WIFI bootloader

Why did I bother making this?

Eventually homebrew will be putting out something bigger than
4MB, and some new homebrew games look promising will be
big ROM file sizes and the GnM users should be able to play them.

I am not making a public release, I no longer have a GnM, it is
being returned to BestBuy, but if someone wants to donate
one for the shell project I will polish the shell up enough for a stable
    release.

BTW I used a SuperCard (SD version) for RAM expansion, with no memory card inserted.

It is BUGGY, and it DOES corrupt FAT file system, I had to reformat the
microSD card. BTW you can get cheap micoSDs on Ebay for like $17 shipped.
So the guys complaining about it only coming with 128MB, that is more
than enough to get you started BTW, unless you are only interested in being a pirate…
I don’t think there is more than 128MB of good homebrew out right now honestly. At least for now anyway.

lol that was liike reading jiborish, i did notunderstand anythinng and i dont know how to use any of these little installation things. i’m hopeless :(

  • 29. Izy  |  August 27th, 2007 at 7:18 pm

Well Malik isnt lying, but what Shell should i use. Try to find the one he made, or just use Moonshell?! If u say Moonshell isnt that only a media player?

  • 30. Malik  |  August 27th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

Quick rundown for those without time…

GnM can’t run ROMs over 4 MB. Trimming it will make it smaller, the only ROM to work is Elf Bowling (with trimming).

  • 31. Malik  |  August 27th, 2007 at 7:22 pm

If you noticed Izy, sonofaglitch says:

I am not making a public release.

  • 32. Izy  |  August 27th, 2007 at 9:46 pm

    Oh, didnt see that, thx!

  • 33. Izy  |  August 27th, 2007 at 10:18 pm

0.o i just booted ElfBowling up with the Games n Music Loader and it worked. it didnt work with Moonshell 4 some reason.

  • 34. Izy  |  August 27th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

oh! nvm it froze on the Menu, cant touch start.

  • 35. Dave  |  August 29th, 2007 at 2:41 pm

is it worth buying??? i dont kno wut u mean by roms and stuff. i herd u can download any ds or most ds games for free as well as videos and mp3s.

  • 36. technabob  |  August 29th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Seeing that legitimate DS games are only about $30 each new, and way less than that used, I don’t know why anyone would bother making illegal copies. The developers worked hard to make those games, and bootlegging them will only end up hurting the game industry in the long haul.

I’m all for hacking and modding devices to do what you want with them, like running homebrew and open source apps. But it’s people who only want to use mods to grab bootlegs of commercial programs that end up giving modding a bad reputation.

    So stop it already.

  • 37. lawrence  |  September 1st, 2007 at 8:07 am

could we load more games using a RAM expander?and what exactly would a ram expander be for the ds? a gba cart or the original thing that was inserted in the ds lite? aking this for edu purpose.

  • 38. googoo  |  September 6th, 2007 at 11:20 am

I have bought 3 commercial cartridges: nintendo-ds-browser, nintendogs and big-brain-academy (and GNM). On trips, I would like to have them “all” stored in a single chip (GNM), instead of having to worry about carrying each one individually with fear to get them lost. I am planning to buy a game per month, so in a year that would be $360 worth of games.

That is why I want to have “commercial” roms on my GNM and be able to boot them. I payed for the roms, so I don’t think I am doing anything illegal. It would be the same as buying music CDs and burning your own CD for your own use.

  • 39. googoo  |  September 6th, 2007 at 11:21 am

BTW, last Monday I saw GNM at the local walmart selling for $20.

  • 40. law  |  September 6th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

any other loading methods or EXRTREME trimming

  • 41. Izy  |  September 6th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

Yea, i bought my GNM cartrage in New Jersey, Kearney for 20 bucks. ^_^

  • 42. mike  |  September 8th, 2007 at 1:16 pm

so basically the gnm is not really a rom player just an mp3 player…. thats crap… there has to ba a patch to play any rom on gnm… someone just has to find it… oh yeah… maxoverload doesnt work…. needs an hdd or cf…

  • 43. adam  |  September 11th, 2007 at 6:20 pm

ok so can GnM play commercial ROMS or not?

  • 44. AFLEM301  |  September 11th, 2007 at 8:42 pm

Malik, or someone, could you send me the loader mentioned in the long post? I will try the ds browser with it. my email is: aflem301@embarqmail.com

  • 45. AFLEM301  |  September 11th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

also, how would i get zlib to compress the rom? is there a program to do it for me?

  • 46. AFLEM301  |  September 11th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

if someone could tell me how to compress a rom with zlib, tell me and i will try it. moonshell seems to have zlib support. so please tell me how to zlib a rom and i will try it.

  • 47. OctoPocky  |  September 13th, 2007 at 1:22 am

Simple bottom line: you cannot launch _any_ .nds file larger than what’s left of the DS internal memory after the GnM interface loads (a little more than 3 and a half megs) whether it be a commercial image or not. You can squeeze a tiny bit more RAM out of it by renaming your image to bootme.nds and placing it in the root directory of your card, but it isn’t much. So if you were hoping to run something like, say, Heroes of Mana for instance, you’d come up about 124 megs of ram short.

  • 48. AFLEM301  |  September 13th, 2007 at 5:03 pm

it says in an earlier post that roms can be compressed with zlib. how do i do that?

  • 49. Izy  |  September 14th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

I was thinking, How does the DS originally run games, what i dont understand is the DS has 4mb of ram, but it runs commercial games, the GnM uses the same ram doesnt it? if so why cant it run roms. Do the DS carts have like 2 files? (e.g) Mario Kart.rom and Launcher.nds (e.g.)?

  • 50. michael  |  September 15th, 2007 at 7:03 pm

    is it reaLLY WORTH IT

  • 51. Ian  |  September 16th, 2007 at 4:29 am

Of course it is to the people who just got ripped off…If people can hack into MMD why not GnM? I’ve been searching for a month or two already and I wish I could get a better Flash card…except I don’t have a credit card. Maybe DSCompress does something. I hav’nt tried it yet.

  • 52. thadogg  |  September 17th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

ok gnm WILL NEVER i repeat never play full games unless the games could be sliced into tiny individual parts -near impossible- other than that sucks to be u homebrew games are great plus u can load sega game with jenesis dont bother with snes unless ur a mario fan no rpgs work on it moonshell is awsome FOR video and pics then get ds hobro and dsorganize 2.9 and ur set if u want to know more specs on wat all ur gnm can do email me at neoking80@yahoo.com

  • 53. Karlos_PR  |  September 17th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

Not that i want to go on with the hacking stuff but, i kinda dont understand. Why cant Games N Music have a way to run commercial roms if theyre the same hardware like R4ds and M3. I was just wandering what do these hardware have that Game N Music dont have? GNM is great at videos and music and a couple of funny little games but what doesnt it have to play those commercial roms?

  • 54. encryptd  |  September 19th, 2007 at 1:20 pm

I’ve searched and searched. Tried many different loaders but to no avail. Its is my conclusion that it would not be realistic to run commercial ROMs on GNM. If someone did find a way it would be too tedious a process and ultimately too slow because of all the compression.
One positive on my research was he discovery of the R4 (R4 Revolution or R4DS) and it does run commercial ROMs with no additional tampering. Its all built in !!! So I returned my GNM to Best Buy ($35) and purchased the R4 from Canada store for $33 and now my son has hundreds of commercial game options. I even showed him how to load & remove them from the Micro SD card & he does it all himself (6yrs old).
So stop wasting ur time searching for cracks to accommodate an inferior product. Instead get the R4 and spend ur time beating the games. Be well all :))

  • 55. aflem301  |  September 19th, 2007 at 1:34 pm

could you (encryptd) tell me where i can find a loader and how to compress a small rom?

  • 56. technabob  |  September 19th, 2007 at 2:18 pm

Hey guys! If you keep discussing how you’re gonna make illegal copies of commercial roms, I’m gonna have to turn off comments on this post.

  • 57. christina  |  September 24th, 2007 at 9:23 am

ok so im pretty dumb bout all this stuff but im tryin to understand this. i want to buy this Datel Games ‘n Music DS but im trying to figure out if it actually plays mp3 files. so does it actually play the songs? i know this is probably a dumb ? so sorry.

  • 71. CQ  |  December 28th, 2007 at 10:55 am

You can’t run full commercial roms, only demos. The only commercial roms you can play are old Gameboy Color, Sega Genesis, Snes, Nes, and Lucas Art games.

    Here’s a video I made with games n’ music.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=F01cbDR4-YQ

  • 72. JumbaDumba YOUR MOM  |  January 1st, 2008 at 10:01 pm

o.k… so i figured out how to finally play commercial roms on the GnM

    1. First you have to insert a 1GB memory card and add 1.71 Moonshell to the ROOT Directory

    2. Grab a hammer and hit your toe with it as hard as you can!

    3. Choke your chicken for 5 minutes, stop on your right foot! DONT FORGET IT

    4. Add some neon thrusters and a liter of router fluid to the sub directory folder you created in step 6.

    5. Add a commercial rom to the ROOT Directory and at the same time call the police and make them send a swat team! You should have the roms working in no time…

  • 73. Unknown  |  January 4th, 2008 at 11:33 am

I bought the GNM Cart and was dissapointed to find that it could not play NDS Roms. I am not a programmer and dont understand many of these things but an idea came to me. If someone would be able to create a DS emulator for the DS, could the roms work on the GNM? This is just a suggestion.

  • 74. MahooMoshi  |  January 5th, 2008 at 10:04 pm

This is stupid and crazy but imagine if you could replace the games n music ui like replace it with the r4 firmware and then roms work! lol a dream i had

  • 75. gamer gab  |  January 6th, 2008 at 3:27 pm

i bought mine at a doller store for suprisingly $1im not allowed to advertise so i cant tell do not bother asking where this doller satore is i will not tell

  • 76. spanner  |  January 30th, 2008 at 3:56 pm

    I got the GnM for

  • 77. WatermelonOfTheSea  |  February 9th, 2008 at 2:59 am

well if u could change the ui with r4 that would be great but the only whay u might do that is to have some kind of nds cart reader to change it out and i don’t know of any if some one could dump the R4 carts.nds file then maby that would boot in GnM and u could do it that way but since its only $4 more of u know were to look i sugest flashing ur ds with the latest version of flash me and buying a slot 2 device like Super card lite i found it for $24 dollars since the ds is flashed u don’t need a slot 1 go between like passcard but make sure u know what ur doing when u flash ur ds i hear ppl who are noobs say tha there ds dosent work any more cuz the flashing proces was stoped befor finishing but i flashed my ds fine so make sure u know what ur doing or what to do first GnM is great for homebrew but if u wan’t to go commercial u need something like M3 R4 or Super Card.

  • 78. Clt_42  |  March 4th, 2008 at 6:11 pm

The GnM is excellent, it can do everything that an r4 can, just cant play full NDS roms. I am working on a firmware hack that can play full ds roms. It will probably take a minute to load nds games when i finish it. I have never had a problem with my GnM, and i bought a chinese 4gb microSD card of ebay and it seems to run on the gNm, send me an email, for the brand of the MicroSd

  • 79. WatermelonOfTheSea  |  March 6th, 2008 at 2:08 am

Clt_42 any chance u will release this to public when its finished?
    if so that’d be sweet!
plz post a link to dl it here.
or tell us to email u for it.
and the gnm is great only problem i hsve with mine is sometimes it wont load the microsd card.

  • 80. WatermelonOfTheSea  |  March 6th, 2008 at 2:10 am

oh yeah tryed the earlyer method metioned and ogot the ds web browser to a blue screen!

cant you just put r4 firmware on gnm like i did

  • 82. myk0lomarn3ss  |  April 1st, 2008 at 6:17 pm

well i have finally done it!
    heres how to do it!
go to walmart buy GnM for $10
    download ds organise
    dwonload a rom
    n play!

  • 83. Sally  |  April 2nd, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Okay so I know everyone is against downloading free rom files but quite frankly i only want one game and i can’t return my stupid Games and music thing. So can someone please tell me how to donwload roms onto my games and music card. And myk0lomarn3ss are you serius?

  • 84. nedjones  |  April 2nd, 2008 at 8:32 pm

clear out gnm card [save it] and put r4 firmware in it

  • 85. Sally  |  April 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 am

Well how do you clear the gnm card? I know its a dumb question but oh well. And have you actually tried that?

  • 86. nedjones  |  April 3rd, 2008 at 2:03 pm

just drag and drop files to desktop [till its empty ]
all the other cards are empty until you put firmware on them
so it should work ,if it doesnt you can delete it and put gnm files back on it ,let me know what happens

  • 87. nedjones  |  April 3rd, 2008 at 2:10 pm

or try it with ttds firmware its better than r4 anyway

  • 88. Sally  |  April 3rd, 2008 at 4:22 pm

okay i will try it thanks for the advice. i truly hope it works. you don’t have a card yourself?

  • 89. rom hacker  |  April 6th, 2008 at 3:48 am

well well well! look who found it….. “IT” out! hehehe!!
nice you found IT out without me! I am inpressed there are still some good hackers out there! nedjones….. hehehehe….
Nice work man nice cheers to nedjones hope you guys are thank full to him… hehehe…

  • 90. WaterMelonOfTheSea  |  April 6th, 2008 at 10:50 am

OMFG! that don’t work the loaders are loaded into the ram of the ds and u cant get GnM files of the GnM cuz the files are in the card its self on all u do it put media on it yes it will load other cards loaders unless ther moon shell (like most cards use ) then u have to dldi patch it for the GnM the only way to really replace the firmware its to load the card its self with a ds cart reader like some flash carts use and hopfully the card isnt ROM and is flash memory otherwise theres no way to do it.
i have tryed ths loaders my self

super card ds one = works dsnt load comercial roms
dstt = loads glitches when loading roms and white screen
Acekard = loads when trys to read micro sd card frezzes
M3 and R4= moonshell so it obeosly dosnt work.

and its the firmware it uses to run the loader not the loader its self if u could flash the R4’s FIRMWARE!! not loader on to the GnM cart not the micro sd crad it could work thats the only way and only if u own a flash cart that uses a ds cart reader to get files to it.

  • 91. WaterMelonOfTheSea  |  April 6th, 2008 at 10:58 am

loader and fiimware up dates = micro sd
firmware=flash cart its self nothing else.

all flash cards have a remote amount of the firmware on it so it can be updated threw the micro sd card case and point the firmware cannot be loaders from the micro sd unless it is a actual rom image of the card riped from a slot to ds card backup device that is also another way.

  • 92. Thedudeiguess  |  April 6th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

Couldn’t you replace the firmware by making it rewrite the rom on the GnM card itself using another rom file that tells it to replace gnm.nds (or what ever it would be called) with a file on the sd card, like gnmmod.nds or something of that sort? I dunno, I ahve no clue when it comes to coding so…

  • 93. rom hacker  |  April 6th, 2008 at 11:52 pm

hehehe….. shesh….. dang….. hehehe…… people need to get there ears cleaned out…. hehehe….. replacing the firm ware on G’N'M is easy….. hehehehe…… i will let you guys wonder for a while…… i am making a new update for the games ‘n’ music cart….. you just run the nds file named “g’n'm3.0.nds”…… its easy……. people….. god….. read a book sometime….. you might learn somthing….. hehehe……. i will release it later….. maybe…… hehehehe……

  • 94. Chuck Norris  |  April 7th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

    What book might that be???

  • 95. rom hacker  |  April 8th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

heheh…. your intrested…. hehehehe…… i dont have it now and its name is to long to remember…. its.. i think about 1000 pages…. and it cost me a LOT of $$$…… think $100 dollars is alot to pay?…. try $3000 dollars for 1000 pages of paper and ink…. hehehehe……. there are 12 of these books in the entire united states… and i got one…..hehehehe….

  • 96. rom hacker  |  April 8th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

if you want a look at i am….. hehe… making download the ttds menu 1.08 at the neo flash web site then…. get moonshell and go into the firmware file that you just downloaded…. go into the file called TTmenu/….. then open reset.mse heheheh….. a little thing will pop up below it will say loading… this is the boot menu for ttds….. it wont go anywhere farther than that….. for now…. hehehe i am almost done with the firmware…… it will be done soon hehehehehe…… so soon hehehehe…

  • 97. Chuck Norris  |  April 8th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

which version on moonshell, my version cant load .mse

  • 98. Chuck Norris  |  April 8th, 2008 at 3:43 pm

get done soon, i dont like that sd card happy face loading screen

  • 99. Chuck Norris  |  April 9th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Just how soon is so soon, and why would you lose a $3000 book.

  • 100. rom hacker  |  April 9th, 2008 at 3:57 pm

hehehe….. give me time…. i am changing the ttds firmware to games ‘n’ music firmware…. it is going to be called ggnm firmware v.2.0 …. hehehehe….. it is a total update…. alowing you to patch every file with the ttds dldi….. try looking around if you like… launch different .mse files…..
from different flash carts… the firmware will be out soon……

  • 101. rom hacker  |  April 9th, 2008 at 3:59 pm

also…. spread my name…. spread the word that the games ‘n’ music firmware is about to be hacked…..

  • 102. Chuck Norris  |  April 9th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

thats really cool, i just hope it works, and is it ggnm firmware or gmn firmware

  • 103. Chuck Norris  |  April 9th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

why not just get gmn to run maximum overdrive like the mmd

  • 104. rom hacker  |  April 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm

hehehehe….. tryed that….. i almost fryed my games ‘n’ music cartrage…… the max media dock differs from games ‘n’ music….. the newer versions of mmd can play commircal roms…… while games ‘n’ music has never had a firmware update…… games ‘n’ music is to slow and not strong enough to run roms without my new (in production) firmware…… it should be able to run roms almost as well as mmd….. or better? hehehe……

  • 105. Chuck Norris  |  April 9th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

when do you think you will finish it, could you give me a date?

  • 106. rom hacker  |  April 9th, 2008 at 11:55 pm

hehehehe…… in about a week…… hehehe…. download the mmd firmware update…. v1.22……. launch the nds file and enjoy the semi working max media dock loader…… hehehehe….. if you have a slot 2 cart put it in…. (super card will work.)(same for any other slot 2 cart.) you will be able to launch a limmited amount of roms like elf bowling and a copple others…..

  • 107. rom hacker  |  April 10th, 2008 at 4:37 am

i am sooooo tired……. almost finnished with the patching then on to the loader….. when i am done….. you will be able to run commiercal roms on the games ‘n’ music cartrage and will work almost the same as the original max media dock but without the big bulky loader…. come on guys…. i need sopport….. i havent even programed a game ever….. on the ds but for some reson i am great at hacking its firmware…… this will be my first release of anything on the ds…… the file will be released as a file called gmds.nds……
if anyone has any comments or questions email me at Gamerhackz@yahoo.com……. yay….. i got elf bowling to run on it…… hehehehe…….

  • 108. Chuck Norris  |  April 10th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

max media doesnt work, it wont get past the first screen

  • 109. CoronelN BOred  |  April 10th, 2008 at 3:52 pm

I have the impression, ROM Hacker is pulling our leg….

    i dont know why…

  • 110. CoronelN BOred  |  April 10th, 2008 at 3:53 pm

I have th eimpresison ROM HAcker is pulling our leg./.

  • 111. Sally  |  April 10th, 2008 at 6:22 pm

okay i have a question and a coment. one is that okay, so i loaded a homebrew with dldl support onto my gnm card and when i tap the application nothing plays!

  • 112. Chuck Norris  |  April 10th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

one, do you have a mac or pc
two, is it bigger than 4 megabytes
three, did you tap it twice

  • 113. rom hacker  |  April 10th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

hehehehe…… you can’t do anything with the max media dock firmware untill i make the hack that makes the max media dock run off the micro sd card instead of a cf card…. hehehe i am not pulling your leg…..

  • 114. Chuck Norris  |  April 10th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

you said all i had to do was load the .nds file, i did and had a slot 2 card in, one that works, and it didnt work look back at post 106

  • 115. CoronelN BOred  |  April 11th, 2008 at 5:40 am

OK Rom HAcker Lets say you r not pulling our leg and that you will succeed in developping a method to make this piece of C**P work for its real purpose.

You said you needed support, what about i send you a 100buck via PAypal IF thanks to you i’m able to use use the games and music the way i want…..

Look for me around and PM in any Forum i have posted the last weeks.

I am not pulling your leg.

  • 116. CoronelN BOred  |  April 11th, 2008 at 5:46 am

    Also

    I would say.
The GNM card blocks the ROMs bigger than 4mb, I tried a perfectly legal Homebrew called tickel the girl and it fails to load because of its huge size (12mb) so i dont know if it is a second layer of security or if it is a lame way to inhibit the use of the card for Piracy…. But according to this limitation the best way would be to dump the GNM firmware and reverse engineer it.

I know the theory behind this yet i’m unable to do it and dont have time to learn. So I hint it here.

  • 117. Chuck Norris  |  April 11th, 2008 at 9:43 am

You know, with $100 you could buy an r4 or ttds

  • 118. Chuck Norris  |  April 11th, 2008 at 1:16 pm

you know r4 uses a 4-wire SD proprietary interface, GNM uses 1-wire SPI bus, which is a lot slower, it is what normal cards use to save their games

  • 119. Chuck Norris  |  April 12th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

    Rom hacker… could you get done a little… faster…

  • 120. WaterMelonOf TheSea  |  April 13th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

your right about the fact that the GnM reads Roms slower so it will just take longer to load a commercial rom *if u can hack the card its self* i honestly can tell you from my experience max overdrive doesnt fry your GnM it can load from a slot 2 device that uses CF card after u launch it from the gnm.
this hehehe….Rom Hacker dude is pulling your leg u cant use moonshell on the gnm with out dldi patching witch makes it work only for the GnM there for uses its base loader *all moonshell is is a menu not a loader its self like max overdrive* so u would have to hack ether the cards physical files or some how make the micro sd slot load faster even if Rom Hacker does make a max overdrive or the GnM cards firmware it will be slow to load commercial roms. i hope he isn’t lying i would love to load backups on the GnM but we need to see some evidence at least show us a vid of a commercial rom (not a demo) running on the GnM at a decent speed and i will believe you.

  • 121. WaterMelonOf TheSea  |  April 13th, 2008 at 1:12 pm

oh and the rom must be playable no freezing at the start menu got it.

  • 122. chuck norris  |  April 14th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

rom hacker 4 days ago you said you were almost finished, and you havent updated us since

  • 123. Chuck Norris  |  April 16th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Rom hacker… i’m beginning to think you are lying… I always thought you were… so if you have any proof that you are making a new firmware for games n music, show it to me.

  • 124. rom hacker #2  |  April 17th, 2008 at 11:01 am

Its kinda funny…ANYONE can impersinate a real rom hacker….i bet this guy is actually pulling our legs like quite a few people have already said…SHOW US A DAMN VIDEO……i mean…a REAL hacker would show some proof..you…your just typing what we want to see…..in my opinion there isnt a new gnm firmware being done….but..we will see i guess

  • 125. Chuck Norris  |  April 17th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

    do what he said

  • 126. rom hacker #2  |  April 17th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Hello chuck….and other users around here…i have done some research and have obviously found a answer….people have been saying r4 firmware can be flashed onto a gnm cart..but how? thats what they never said….so that idea was a fake….anyway why cant we do what others have said? get another adapter altogether…i did i got a XPRESS card…runs full commercial roms…homebrew…i must admit it sucks at the homebrew but homebrew without dldi runs great..homebrew with dldi i cannot run because the card does not yet support it….or for those who donot wish to get abother card i must say dont give up….i have slightly changed my view…theres gotta be someone able to hack the gnm cart…if ds firmware itself has been hacked to look totally different then why cant the ds gnm be hacked? is it still to good to be hacked? or is someone hacking it behind our backs so they can suprise us?

I must say dont get your hopes TO high….boards like this are PRONE to spammers….which i think “rom hacker” is….

  • 127. Chuck Norris  |  April 17th, 2008 at 10:45 pm

    i hope you’re right…

  • 128. rom hacker  |  April 20th, 2008 at 3:04 am

FORGET YOU JERKS!! YOUR ALL SO STUPID!!!!!!!! i give in all my time for this and i get no respect! i am dropping the project. you care to much about being pirates. just go buy the game. don’t hurt nintendo.. get some brains…

  • 129. WaterMelonOfTheSea  |  April 20th, 2008 at 4:28 am

pfft >.>whats wrong rom hacker can’t take a little criticism?
knew your where a fake you got no proof u even tried and how dare u call us pirates for your info i own every ds game i have backed up!
your the stupid one not giving ppl strait answers acting like your leet and getting ppl who don’t know any better to think your gonna help them out.
i bet u don’t even know c++ do u fucking noob probably don’t even know how to wipe your own ass and gotta get your mom to do it for you.
GTFO and go change your diaper u bitch baby!

  • 130. rom hacker #2  |  April 20th, 2008 at 6:40 am

Well well well its kinda funny he just DROPS the project so fast after claiming he was nearly done? what a asshole…i bet it was some 10 yr old trying to sound smart and we caught him/her out…..what a total n00b….i bet WaterMelonOfTheSea is right rom hackers mom has to wipe his/her ass…..as i said before MAYBEY some hacker behind our backs is hacking gnm but maybey not…if the gnm doesnt get hacked within 4 months i would definatly get a new adapter….but you never know…things change…

  • 131. rom hacker #2  |  April 20th, 2008 at 6:47 am

I also bet that IF he/she did say they were finished with the project…they would charge for it…then if some guy does JUST happen to pay…they get a hell of a ds virus :( like that fake “ds_rom_loader” virus that erased partialy the ds firmware

  • 132. The wire  |  April 20th, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Wow. rom hacker. what a retard. sorry peoples I (unlike rom hacker) have The truth on how to play commiercal roms on games ‘n’ music. You need the slot 2 for mmd or a supercard (supercard cf.) max overload needs a slot two to work. same for the mmd firmware. There are tons of ways to run commircal roms with a slot 2 and games ‘n’ music. i will post a site on how to do all this (with Proof pictures!) soon. for now i will have to tell you how to do it here. download Max Crass. here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?6ncgngxm1xd
also download this it is the latest mmd firmware: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=28829
don’t patch ANYTHING with the games ‘n’ music dldi.
take the bootme.nds from the mmd zip and rename it to what ever you like and put it on you games ‘n’ music micro sd. next open up maxcrassmethod.zip and go into the file that says Max overload 1_2 get the Max overload 1_2.nds and Max overload 1_2 patcher and put them both on you desktop. put he Max overload 1_2.nds on ether the cf card or you games ‘n’ music micro sd (i dont care which.) (HERE IS THE HaRD PART!) get a nds rom file and put it on your desktop. patch it with the max overload 1_2 patcher then place the nds rom on your cf card. Take your micro sd and your mmd slot 2 or you supercard slot 2 (with the cf card in) and pop it in the bottom of you ds next plug you games ‘n’ music in you ds boot up your ds. (TWo WAY PART!!!!!) If you placed the max overload 1_2.nds on your cf launch the mmd firmware and run max overload 1_2 off you cf card run a nds rom and!! drum role please NDS ROMS ON GaMES ‘N’ MUSIC!! (PART 2) if you put the max overload 1_2 on you games ‘n’ music then just run that and you will see your games in the list if you dont try reloading the roms onto you cf card and repatching them. if still they dont appear then try reformating your cf card (sometimes it corrupts) ENJOY i will post a site soon on exactly how to do this (once i get my new supercard cf in the mail and my camera.) untill then this post will have to do. enjoy!

  • 133. rom hacker #2  |  April 21st, 2008 at 12:55 am

Hmmmm sounds interesting…hope your not lieing :P

<no offense but wemve had to many liers, i aint saying you are one so dont worry :D

  • 134. rom hacker #2  |  April 21st, 2008 at 12:56 am

    we have*

  • 135. WaterMelonOfTheSea  |  April 21st, 2008 at 1:19 am

all that is doing is booting from a slot 2 NOT playing games with the GnM but loading from a slot 2 device with it. tho nice to know you can thats no different than useing a passme card to load from slot 2.
if someone could get a hold of the source code for Max Overload Rewrite it to use Micro sd from slot one instead of CF from slot 2 there is a strong potability we will have our back uped commercial roms loading FROM the GnM.

  • 136. WaterMelonOfTheSea  |  April 21st, 2008 at 1:28 am

my point is slot 2 CF adapters are EXPENSIVE and its just not what were looking for.
i stated in a later commit i made that max overload can load from slot 2 from the GnM(tested with my freinds MMD) and we want to load from slot 1with it not have to buy a whole other card to play Back ups on.

  • 137. rom hacker #2  |  April 21st, 2008 at 10:12 am

Hmmm I get what your saying watermelon….some people will actually not want to by a new adapter altogether…..still…a rewrite of the max overload code would be excellent.. :) ;)

  • 138. Chuck Norris  |  April 21st, 2008 at 3:14 pm

you cant run commercial games on gnm’s micro sd card, the thing that reads it inside gnm is way too slow. If you somehow find a way, it will run very slowly.

  • 139. Chuck Norris  |  April 21st, 2008 at 3:18 pm

If you want to play commercial games, go to electrobee.com and get a super card, r4, eZ-flash, or a cyclods, which is what I got. very nice card, but a bit big, i think it is way better than r4 and those other cards. It is also at a reasonable price… shipping may cost a lot though.

  • 140. The wire  |  April 21st, 2008 at 9:08 pm

It will run. You just need a CF device and here is the web site i promised you guys I will continue to work on it ok?

  • 142. Chuck Norris  |  April 21st, 2008 at 9:37 pm

if you have a slot 2 card with cf the mmd firmware would run on it and with max overload you could play commercial roms and you wouldnt need games n music, just use flashme and hold a b x y when you start up. plus once the mmd menu is loaded the ds runs off the slot 2 device. but i guess what youre saying would work too.

  • 143. Chuck Norris  |  April 21st, 2008 at 9:38 pm

or just put the mmd firmware on the cf card and load directly from it.

  • 144. The wire  |  April 21st, 2008 at 10:10 pm

That would not work you can’t load the slot 2 of mmd without first loading the firmware on a flash card like R4, mmd pass, M3 simpley ect. you need a slot 1 to run a slot 2 on the ds.

  • 145. Chuck Norris  |  April 21st, 2008 at 10:11 pm

get a passme card, i saw one on ebay for $5, much less than gnm $20

  • 146. Chuck Norris  |  April 21st, 2008 at 10:18 pm

and by the way, nice website.

  • 147. The wire  |  April 21st, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Thanks. I will post the totorial for all this on my web site soon. If you would be so kind it is expencive to post ads on google ($5 a day!) so i was wondering if you could spread the word about my web site. You don’t have to but i would like it if you would take some spare time to post links to my web site on Youtube, dcemu, and other homebrew sites.

Not to go off topic BUT isnt if funny “Rom Hacker” hasnt returned?

if his so called project was real he would be back by now…oh and wire…cool site…STUPID QUESTION but cant you patch a slot 2 cards firmware to run roms off of a slot1? or get a slot1 firmware and patch that?

    Sorry 4 the dumbass question….

  • 149. The wire  |  April 22nd, 2008 at 12:18 pm

That’s not a stupid question at all. Some people clame to have done that exactly. But none of them showed proof that they could. Yea it is funny that rom hacker has not returned trying to be smart once more. what a fag. Any who the slot 2 cards are the alternitive to the mmd slot 2. I will add a forum for everyone to post there thoughts (and other slot 2 addapters) on.
The best of luck to all

the acekard launcher does try to read from the micro sd it just freezes if would possibly be easer to hack to load back ups from the GnM than the max over load.and it also has the ability to load from slot 2 as well so it could kill 2 bird with one stone.

  • 158. WaterMeonOfTheSea  |  April 24th, 2008 at 4:17 am

and thats the acekard 2 launcher that i tryed not acekard R.P.G mainly cus the cekard R.P.G ands built in storage from what i here and i would hate to find out if it could fry the GnM lol.
actually if someones gonna hack acekard loader for the GnM its better suited in my openion.

  • 159. rom hacker #2  |  April 24th, 2008 at 5:49 am

Damn….i,ll still look for POSSIBLE solutions….hmmmmm how do nintendo write games to their cards then? i dont think they use a special memory card reader….or do they?

because i,ve opened up a nds cart and obviously i only see 1 or 2 chips along with other stuff

1 of the chips being the eeprom

and the other being where the game is stored.

If anyone wishes me to..i can take apart my gnm for people to look at <this is because i got a new card for me ds <xpress card > just incase anyone has any thoughts of how to get the firmware out of the eeprom or wherever the firmware is…..anyone wannt me to post some pictures??

  • 160. The wire  |  April 24th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

i will get a list of slot 1 cards on my web site. I have tryed every firmware there is for the ds on games ‘n’ music. all failed. i will also make a list of half way passing cards and non-passing cards on my site. Nice job rom hacker#2 (although It was easly found on google with the name.)
    keep up the good work.

  • 161. rom hacker #2  |  April 25th, 2008 at 10:11 am

Awwww i took it apart…BUT i was able to use the front of the casing..tape the gnm chip to it…and get to function in ds still ;)

  • 162. rom hacker #2  |  April 27th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

hmmmm i think the only solution is at the moment is for ppl with gnm get a new adaptor as a temporary replacement…ya can get cheap ones from http://www.cheapmod.com …then when gnm does get hacked u can enjoy ur roms…i mean if gnm never gets gacked..you will still have benefitted from getting a new card…..

  • 163. cami  |  April 29th, 2008 at 10:27 am

    umm… HI im new ~_~
I have things on my ds using gnm…
I got a rom to work that was under 3 mbs…. some baseball game
    cool huh??

  • 166. rom hacker #2  |  May 1st, 2008 at 1:27 am

Hey myfriday yeah sure thats cool..BUT the dissapointing parts are you can only run roms about 3mbs high…its a damn shame we can only run demos and homebrew…anyway, nintendo dont seem to care because if they did, all the other flash carts on the market would have been banned by now…..or maybey nintendo are doing something with their firmware to prevent it….we will just have to see

  • 167. ElwoodBlues  |  May 1st, 2008 at 11:08 am

    Hey TheWire:
I’m not sure the hardware differences between the gnm and other devices will allow firmware from any of them to work right on it. But, from what I gather, the reason the gnm fails with roms larger than 3mb is that its own ui takes up so much memory on the ds… perhaps you could rip the firmware from the gnm? from there it should be possible to replace that heavy ui with a much, much smaller and faster one, and then flash that back onto the cart. I guess this is all theoretical as far as I know; my understanding of coding says it should work but but my complete lack of experience with nds hardware and software on that level tells me I might be wrong.

  • 168. The wire  |  May 1st, 2008 at 5:08 pm

You can try to make a build file use the make file from Ak5 sorce code. and use lib-fat to compile it. I havent tryed it yet because my pc wont run it right now try it though

Hey. I’ve been using G’N'M since September.

  • 184. leo  |  May 23rd, 2008 at 7:27 pm

hypothetically speaking couldnt we just run a custom firmware update on gnm if it was under 4mb also if it updated we could also make an R4 update

i mean conversion to a .nds format shouldnt be hard if an update would be made

im asking because i mod sony consoles and im taking nintendo interest now so hit me up with some ideas

  • 185. David  |  May 24th, 2008 at 7:17 am

where do you buy any of these not on the internet. they are no longer in walmart or target near my area. i live in cincinnati

  • 186. leo  |  May 24th, 2008 at 1:40 pm

David i got mine at target online it came in 4 days and it was about 25 dollars locally they are going off market because hackers have announced to fully break the RCA lock on it and so forth bringing commericial game homebrew to gnm hopefully u can get b4 they go off the market

  • 187. David  |  May 24th, 2008 at 5:46 pm

dang i need one near me. i cant buy it online because i dont have a credit card nor will my parents buy it for me. danm hackers. but i think i saw one in columbus but i probaly wont go up there. thanks anyway. i have been trying to find one for two weeks. i should have bought one when they first came out. but i had never heard of them

  • 191. The wire  |  May 28th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

I looked at that yes hackers have found a way to crack the RCA code ont the games ‘n’ music cartrage (no more demos woohoo!) but nintendo is pulling them off the market as quick as they can so grab one before there all gone! I will post a report on this and put it all over THE GAMES ‘N’ MUSIC HAS GONE COMMIERCAL!!! WOOT!!

  • 192. David  |  May 28th, 2008 at 10:21 pm

i am going to buy mines online at target.com using a gift card tomorrow. i need to check it if is still there

    @ the wire,
give it up gnm will not go commercial….
the only way to do it is with a slot 2 hack

  • 198. The wire  |  May 31st, 2008 at 10:45 pm

…… why do you peoples have to be such downers? Nintendo is planning on making there own cartrage called DSone or somthing like that and they are calling games ‘n’ music illegal!? wtf how is it illegal? Oh I wonder?! DER! games ‘n’ music is commiercal and nintendo knows it so they are saying it is illegal when to us it looks legal! + now using games ‘n’ music voids your nds warranty (To bad just don’t have it in when you want to get it repaired.) don’t give up. again+ WHY DIDINT THEY SAY R4 OR M3 OR EDGE OR ACECARD WHER ILLEGAL!!! why did they chose the games ‘n’ music?? What do they know that we don’t? The truth is nintendo knows games ‘n’ music is being sold now…. AND DATEL IS MAKING MONEY OF THE DS!!! So nintendo is trying to stomp on datel by making there OWN flash card (WTF WOULDENT THAT MEAN THAT ALL HACKERS WOULD HACK THAT??!??! WHY IS NINTENDO GETTING INTO THIS?? WHAT DO THEY HAVE PLANNED??? (gosh i wish i knew!) SO DONT GIVE UP HOPE I WILL PUT UP PICTURES ON MY WEB SITE IF YOU DONT BELEIVE ME!!

-THE WIRE SIGNING OUT! YEEEEEHAW! lol a little over the top i gess ……sorry…. lololol..

    gnm=no commercial roms
dsone=is gonna be for roms strictly from the ds online store
u=retarted for still believing gnm will run commercial roms
me= nice enough to tell u this
gnm ram=not existent=not enough power to run comm. games

sorry but fuckin deal with it

  • 200. The wire  |  June 1st, 2008 at 8:03 pm

OMFG gnm willl never run those rom EVER!
it has no ram u need a slot 2 adapter its he only
    way!!

  • 203. rom hacker #2  |  June 4th, 2008 at 2:49 am

    @ Leo

LEO! Why dont u just shut up?
….if u believe that gnm will never run commercial roms without a CF adapter then thats what u believe…..LEAVE OTHER PEOPLE TO THEIR OWN BELIEFS AND STOP FLAMING THEM FOR IT!

Anyway…I think leo is one of those idiots who likes to annoy the smartass people because leo himself makes out to be smart when in fact he could be a little 12 yr old…..:/

I also agree with “The Jester” wire shouldnt have left…should have kept going on…..fine he may have to put up with “Leo” but he would have made it……..Leo just went OTT…but thats what he probably does anyways….

    KEYWORDS: OTT

  • 205. rom hacker #2  |  June 4th, 2008 at 10:17 am

NO! You stfu…..you havent seemed to shut up actually…stop bothering people here…YOU think theres no RAM….so if thats what u think keep thinking on it…someone else may disbelieve you…but thats there own belief……SO STICK WITH YOUR OWN BELIEFS AND SHUT UP ABOUT THEM!

  • 206. leo  |  June 4th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

okay imma go home and open my gnm and i will show u there is no ram and ill even compare it to a R4 and regular DS game just to shut u people up

rom hacker #2 i mean really it has been a year and noone has even gotten close to hacking it to play commercial games

the most logical thing i heard was a firmware change and i still am skeptical

and listen im a major coder and if u make a physical dump of gnm it shows RAM=0 but if dont believe fine hack the damn gnm and then we can talk…..

BELIEVE ME I WOULD LOVE IF GNM GOT HACKED!!
but its not looking up :(

hopefully there can be a free solution to play commercial roms on gnm and bow to the person working on it so u hav my support spirutually but with my coding experience i would have to say no…

but by all means prove me wrong because u kno wat i would love to be wrong

TO ALL: sorry for the shut up BS!!!!

btw im 16 not 12 lol

  • 207. The wire  |  June 4th, 2008 at 10:19 pm

    @ the wire,
after a little research i have come to a decision me and you are gonna hack this thing together.
there are ways to push open buffer zones on the DS and i think if we put our brains together you and i can actually hack this damn cartridge!

please respond quickly so we can talk about ways to this

i have also found out that the microsd on the gnm can process games if we utilize it with a microsd loader compatible with the gnm

    so what do u say?

  • 216. rom hacker #2  |  June 9th, 2008 at 4:12 am

Hello! Sorry for not posting in such a long time but I have been busy. Leo I tryed working with some different loaders But I have only got one to work on the games ‘n’ music try this Acekard R.P.G. loader 4.01 source codes + build environment (20070921) I will try modifying the loader and see what happens!

  • 222. rom hacker #2  |  June 27th, 2008 at 11:38 am

:O…hope u find something useful…anyway i just puzzeled myself…if the ds has only 4mb of ram…what do the original games such as pokemon and all that use? do they have ram on the carts themselves?

  • 223. The wire  |  June 28th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

My guess is Yes i think the actual games have onboard ram or maybe datel made it so the games ‘n’ music uses more ram than it needs so the games don’t work! (why would they do that? legal issues?) If you try to run a game on ttds what is the differance? the cartrages seem the same! I think that datel made it so the games ‘n’ music uses like 2mb right at the start while a normal ds game needs between 3-4mb of ram. what did datel load into that ram?? just garrbled code? or a debugging sistem? would a extra 4mb of ram i the slot 2 help? O_O i just realized how long I have been typing! I will post this exact post on to my forum and my blog!

  • 224. rom hacker #2  |  June 29th, 2008 at 2:40 am

Ok thnx for letting me know, i decided to take apart a game i dont use anymore (Mario Kart Ds) it had 4 little black chip thingys….1 was a long one and said ROM under it the 2nd one was a small square and said FLASH the 3rd was another small square which said EEPROM and the 4th was ANOTHER small square with nothing under it, MAYBEY this 4th small square is ram? well i had to check…so i removed the square from the cart circuit board GLUED the casing back on…stuck in ds loaded it up (wow it loaded?) and it gave me a error the ds screens turned blue and all you could hear in the background was “Hear we go!” repeating itself over and over but what puzzeled me most was what the blue screens said…now its gonna sound like im lieing because i have no proof, no pictures, no vids…but im not lying..it gave me a screen like one of the wario games for ds (cant remember which one) but top screen said

    “ROM ERROR”

    Bottom screen said

    “MEMORY EXPANSION LOST”
    “EEPROM FAILED”
    “FLASH FAILED”

soooo was that little square thingy a memory expansion for the game….maybey larger roms like pokemon have these little chips? Maybey the carts have onboard memory..but the little black chip thingys are what the manufactures put in if the game still didnt have enough memory (sounds stupid i know)

i am really puzzeled still FLASH and EEPROM are saving methods…FLASH if i am correct is for saving large rom save files and EEPROM is for say quick saving….

Someone post back on this as im really puzzeled (And know i cant take a pic of the cart i looked at as i threw it away…..)

  • 225. The wire  |  June 29th, 2008 at 5:58 am

    Easy list!:

Rom: onboard memory (This is the boot data for the game. aka it is the dna of the game.)

Flash: data storage (where you save your game data to!)

Eeprom: current data (The stuff that tells the game you did somthing it is just like the short term memory for the card.)

blank chip: ram (most likely the ram or some sort of data storage.)

  • 226. rom hacker #2  |  June 29th, 2008 at 7:39 am

Thanks! That cleared my mind of the wierd black squares :)

Anyway Wire, i had a look at the acekard stuff…got totally confused…anyway u said you,d try and modify the loader…HOW???

Anyway…how come we cant extract data from the games n music black squares “The ROM part” becos im sure if datel can write data TO the chip, we can extract data FROM the chip….or am i totally wrong? (Maybey they have DS cart readers which read only data from the ROM chip and stuff, but surely someone would have made one by now using a spare ds or something…where they take the ds slot out etc etc etc….or make a ds firmware to dump the ROM data to say the mini-SD card…)

  • 227. The wire  |  June 29th, 2008 at 8:01 am

LOL i just pulled a all nighter! anyway the games ‘n’ music does not have a rom chip as it has no need for one there is no game data needing to be stored instead it just uses the micro sd as its memory. sorry i may seem different typing because i have not slept in about 34 hours.

  • 228. The wire  |  June 29th, 2008 at 8:15 am

strange. I opened my ages of empires the age of the kings cartrage and i only found one big chip and one teeny tiny one! some differance. LOL i just sacerficed my ages of empires game and it freezes when i try to play it now. to bad.

  • 229. rom hacker #2  |  June 29th, 2008 at 8:43 am

:S wierd…IF SOMEONE HAS A LARGE ROM SAY 64MB (u can check against online ones) PLEASE SACRIFICE YOUR CART AND OPEN IT….i just may have got a rare MKDS……becos when i 1st played out of the box the game was already completed…and every now and then it would say V1.9 in the corner >.< maybey its a dev version…nvm i threw it away after lookin inside of it

  • 230. leo  |  June 29th, 2008 at 11:05 am

alrite im modifying the Acekard 2 loader command, thursday it should be done.
as of now the wire and me are trying to configure a loader with gnm. they freeze at the point when the loader recognizes the device. i think the hidden component SST NRAM is accessible when a different loader is present and functioning

acekard 2 and gnm are basically R4 when u take the components into retrospect, the only difference with gnm is that while it does hav RAM it non accessible RAM known as SST NRAM, me and the wire are now configuring loaders to the gnm and when we make a stable loader we shall test them and repost links when we have them ready

    @ The Wire

Well i must have been right and got a DEV version of mkds cos as i said before every now and then you would see s V1.9 in the corner ONLY on certain racing tracks.

    @Leo

Well done so far, maybey post a video showing us where it locks up?

Also CANT WAIT TO SEE IF IT WORKS!

but can you explain to me what will be different? (menu/controls….etc)

    Once Again

    GOOD LUCK!
    -and-
THANKS FOR WHAT YOU ARE BOTH DOING!

  • 235. rom hacker #2  |  June 30th, 2008 at 12:55 am

    the reason i asked

“can you explain to me what will be different? (menu/controls….etc)”

is because i,ve never used a Ace Kard.

  • 236. The wire  |  June 30th, 2008 at 3:21 am

Any one need any totorials? my video camera is working again.

  • 237. rom hacker #2  |  June 30th, 2008 at 10:25 am

no thnx but can u answer my question?

  • 238. The wire  |  June 30th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

The menu is a little more complex you can change the skins and you can use slot 2 or slot 1 on command it also has onboard memory which I dont have the slightest idea of what it does.

P.s sorry for having horrid gramar i am really tierd.

    -the wire

  • 239. rom hacker #2  |  July 1st, 2008 at 12:25 am

Nevermind the grammar, dont really care as long as i can read it and it makes sense

and the onboard memory may be for saves….unless it saves directly to any external memory….or could be some sample memory…enough to fit 1 rom so u can test the ace kard?…may be wrong but its a thought…

    Anyway Leo and The Wire

GOOD LUCK on continuing your small project on modifying the acekard loader.

I’ve been searching message boards everywhere i can google for info just like this!!! I’m at work right now so i can’t really check up on Wire’s website, but i just wanted to say, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR CONTINUING TO WORK WITH THE GNM!!!!! I find this field facinating especially as I learned C++ while going to college for Computer Science. You guys rock! Thanks again!

    (I <3 my GnM!!!!!)

  • 241. rom hacker #2  |  July 1st, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Welcome lol…enjoy the discussions we have here (its obvious but: IGNORE THE n00bs as we have them regularly, im supirsed none of them has tried to impersonate someone here like
    “The Wire”)

  • 242. rom hacker #2  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 1:51 pm

    BIG NEWS (for me anyway)

    GO HERE: http://www.ioffer.com/i/33985826

IF I SAW CORRECTLY A DS FLASH CARD BUT LOOK AT ITS USB METHOD,.,.,,PLUG THE DS CARD RIGHT INTO A DS-CARD READER!!!!!!!

it may only read F-CARD though..so dont get hopes up!

  • 243. The wire  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Nice job! rom hacker #2 that looks promising! I will look into buying one! As for somone trying to impersonate me I would hate If somone tryed somthing like that. If somone did try that I would be dissaponted in that person for lying.

Its funny that everyone thinks that the GnM can only run 3mb games… I’ve succesfully gotten games up to 7mb to run (archomage) just by using the DLDI version one… It can’t boot it (from what I’ve heard) because of the SD Card reader being so slow. I’m no hacker, But I’m sure it is eventually gonna be entirely possible to run commercial games from the GnM, given the person doing the hacking knows what they’re doing.

I, myself, am trying various ways to modify games so they work on the GnM. (which’ll obviously end in a failure due to my limited knowledge, and only knowing some hex editing), but if I ever figure anything out, I’ll probably tell. (Like I said, though, I probably wont)

  • 245. Cruroar  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 6:47 pm

I’m just a noob to this but I have an idea of what you guys could do.

Take the source code for DSOrganize and incorparate with a bootloader that is able to use the microSD card as extra RAM memory this way u can load the rom directly from the microSD and even though it’s slow at reading it won’t matter because in theory that is how a DS card reads, only DS cards use built in flash memory instead of removeable memory.

Plz tell me what you think of this plan.

  • 246. rom hacker #2  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 12:52 am

    @Cruroar

I like this plan, maybey “The Wire” will take up this plan….but look at the link i posted : http://www.ioffer.com/i/33985826

this is what were doing atm but if that fails im sure The Wire will take up ur plan but atm the plan were TRYING to do is of the upmost importance….because we MAY have found a company whos,s flash cards actually use ds card readers……this may lead to some good stuff like modifying the gnm ALTOGETHER! maybey turning it into a R4 but who knows we,ll have to wait.,…

  • 247. Cruroar  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 5:06 pm

thx rom hacker #2 i’ll try to get a hold of one and test it with a gnm if my mom lets me use her credit card

  • 248. rom hacker #2  |  July 4th, 2008 at 12:59 am

    @Cruroar

Ok, cool hope she lets u!

    @The Wire

Hows everything comming along? still thinking on buying a F-CARD? cos I AM! my dads gettin my a 2GB for £20 brand new! it uses same usb..and 1st thing im gonna do with usb be4 i use F-CARD is stick my GnM in the usb reader and see what happens :)

if i can successfully get the GnM to read from the usb reader then im sure the wire can get a loader to work on it, and if it reads the GnM will it read original games? is this the way people rip the games? via a usb reader? cos nintendo WRITE the games that way..and if we can RIP them, will they be in god old .nds format?

Also if i can get my GnM to read via USB reader then i,ll be happy to use my GnM for BETA tests if The Wire makes a new loader for example.

WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE. (CANT WAIT TO GET MY DS CARD)

  • 249. leo  |  July 4th, 2008 at 1:19 am

alrite i have jobs for some people since my loader is almost finished

    @ rom hacker #2,
when you get your usb thing send the wire all the files and he will give them to me bcuz he has my personal email

    @ the wire,
i need u to explain wat exactly an EEP ROM carries in its memory banks, reason being i need to code this last part to the AK2 loader

ill update u guys here on technabob:
i changed formats on the AK2 loader that was modified into my AK2 cartridge when i did a physical dump of it i used the DLDI patch recover and overwrite code to bypass gnm RSA lock which im 99.99999% will allow full roms to proceed, anywayss the only part of coding i need that is left it the gnm internal EEP ROM code (thats why u need to explain this to me wire!!) when that is put into motion im sure the last code will go in smoothly, also due to the stableness of the loader i would recommend u just load the AK2 loader in the GNM screen because a loader that is forced into another flashcart could corrupt if not properly used!!!! so when i put all the files in the for release most likely ill give it to the wire to put on his website so he gets hits.

SO!!!! point is romhacker #2 has the key to this lock, so rom hacker #2 please give me all the files u can dig out of the GNM ill find wat i need so just send it all so there is no chance of any miscalculations!!

BTW SORRY FOR THE SUPER LONG POST I JUST WANTED TO RELEASE A FULL UPDATE!!!!!!!
(if ur wondering i got the AK2 at DX for $23.12 dollars)

    Leo is out!

  • 250. leo  |  July 4th, 2008 at 5:09 pm

    f*ck!!!

i need the EEP ROM code now otherwise i cant program the rest of the loader i can send u guys wat i have now but it will boot and crash which has no sense in doing so :/
if any body can get me the EEP ROM code for GNM please do it soon!! i have summer school and academic trips starting july 17th and as of then u wont be able to access me until september

i will send the wire wat i have done if someone cant get it to me by then and he can finish it himself

so yea… Umm I have been busy lately so I havent had much time to respond + I have been programing alot lately.

  • 252. leo  |  July 4th, 2008 at 5:54 pm

@ my dawg the wire u dont hav to get an f-card i found a source for it so we r good my source said by monday

and i kno wat u mean man when i was rewriting commands on the AK2 loader i was falling asleep while writing only to find out all i needed was the EEP ROM code anyways i think users of the AK2WIRE loader should flashme their DS as a safety becuz of the cards stability i dont kno how much it will rely on the microsd bcuz i do not have a GNM anymore so its would be a recommendation in case of anything (personally i dont think it will hurt the DS but its better to be precautious than out of a DS right?)

( yea thats the name i thought it would be better than the AK2LEO loader lol)
