This new display technology from Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. has created a full-color LCD that’s truly unique. It’s round.

The panels are designed for use in vehicular instrument panels. The initial module measures in at about 75mm (2.95″) diameter and 11mm (0.43″) thick, including all electronics and backlighting. Viewable area is 62mm (2.44″) in diameter, and the screen supports up to 260,000 colors.
While the display is ideally suited to speedometers, tachometers and other automotive displays, I can imagine some pretty cool hacking opportunities too. Circular iPod anybody?

Great! Makes our conceptual device possible. See teaser of the rear of our proposed OPHONE at http://www.owonder.com/ophone . Front features a circular display that for design registration reasons cannot be shown. This mockup was created in 2003. We also purchased the domain ophone.com quite a while ago too.
