Very interesting!
Reminds me a bit of the “RotoTexture” work of Hui Fang.
I wonder if they’re using a similar approach.

I think photos may be harder, just because with video there’s several frames that can be compared so the computer can tell that the shadow is moving, and not part of the pattern.
