cool boy game console: call the copyright cops

The latest gadget to crawl out from the seamy underbelly of the Chinese gaming underground. Not to be confused with the GameBoy, the Cool Boy is a portable game system that plays a variety of old school 8-bit and 16-bit console titles.

Cool Boy Portable Gaming Console

From what I can tell, the Cool Boy is one of those systems that plays emulated NES and SEGA console games, and the only way to get them is through questionable packages like this 120-in-1 cartridge that clearly includes copyrighted works from major game studios like EA, Nintendo and Disney.

The cartridge claims to include all sorts of classics like Donkey Kong, Galaga, Tetris, Xevious and Lode Runner among others, but I strongly suspect that the games are either knock-offs or illegal bootlegs. The portable system includes a 2.4″ LCD screen (480×240 resolution), and can even output to a TV using its built-in AV port.

Still, the system is only about $36, and the 120 game cartridge around $8 bucks. So you’re not taking too much of a risk if the whole thing craps out in a month. If you’re willing to take a gamble, you can grab both the Cool Boy system and 120-in-1 game cartridge from importer DealExtreme.

Looks like a small investment for some old time entertainment. After all if you really want to unwind this would be an alternative and a cheap one at that. I will give this a shot.

Too bad Dealextreme are EXTREME con artists and thieves . Why should they care if they sell pirated stuff? They only want you to give them your money so that you can never see your merchanise . Seriously … Buyer beware

  4. technabob says:

Really? Have you had problems receiving merchandise from them? I’ve not heard anything from other readers before,

  5. Joshua says:

Yes really I have plaed nine orders through Dealextreme of which I received 4 which were my first orders and were small … when I thought I could trust them … after the fourth purchase … thats when they hit me . The consecutive five orders I never received . I have been waiting three months for a refund on them … no response from DealExtreme and when I called their customer service line someone spoke chinese and when I asked if anyone spoke American they laughed at me and hung up.

Just stay away from there folks they are bad news and I wouldnt want anyone else getting ripped off like I did.

Just look through their forums , the customers that arent card carrying morons that think DX can do no wrong voice their disgust quite often on there

  6. Joshua says:

Yeah it was really unfortunate as it really seemed to be too good to be true … but in this life … you know the saying.

By the way … love this blog , I added it to my RSS feeds to keep up on the new posts . Great work here

  7. Aikon says:

The Chinese ppl probably laughed coz you asked if “anyone spoke American”… I always thought Americans spoke English?

Anyway if you’re speaking to the Chinese you should’ve asked if anyone spoke “Engrish” lol

  8. Oddmund says:

    I don’t think there’s any 16-bit games in it.

  9. yingying says:
