So you're saying this thing is a waste of money, or do you think it's a good idea to make it look like your house is occupied?

As a former member of the NYCPD, I can tell you, unless it's actually a home invasion(they want you to be home) burglars as rule don't enter into occupied premises. Burglaries are usually crimes of opportunity and if its a plan one, part of the plan is you not being there. It defeats the purpose of it being a burglary. A professional thief will only enter a occupied home if it's a mansion size type of occupancy where your sitting in the west wing and what he wants is in the east wing, and that usually means he knows there is great wealth to be had.

The fake TV seems to be a really cool product. On top of the fake TV I highly recommend a CCTV or Surveillance security system. Although the fake TV may be a deterrent if a crime actually happens or the outside of your home is vandalized you will want the video to identify the criminals!

Are you looking for a way to keep your family and home safe? There are hundreds of different security systems and hidden cameras you can install in your home. But one device you may not exactly be familiar with is the fake TV.

The fake TV is a burglar deterrent device that accurately simulates the light output from that of a real television set. You will get the same effect of scene changes, light changes, fades, flicks, and on-screen motions as you would from a real TV. So what does this mean to you?

Having a fake TV gives off the impression that someone is in the home watching television. Instead of the burglar thinking the home is empty, this device is designed to scare the burglar away thinking someone is still home. The hope is the device will be enough to get the burglar to move on to an easier target where nobody is home.

Just in case anyone is interested, QVC.com has these for $29.42, until they run out of stock. (They are taking a really skinny markup on this.)

RE cappinkirk-- from outside the house, it is essentially impossible from outside the house to tell if it is FakeTV, or someone is really home watching TV. Interestingly, people have been using FakeTV even when they are home. They want to make the home look more obviously occupied.

But if a crook breaks in even if he thinks the house is occupied, you have a very dangerous situation any way you look at it.

at least you know if you're breaking in the house, and you see a fake tv, that the owners definitely are gone.

We got one of these right before our annual snowbird vacation and we LOVE it!!! Of course, we used it in addition to having lights on timers and relying on nosey neighbors to keep an eye on the house. While we were out of town, several vandals hit our neighborhood and our house remained untouched. Finally some useful elecronics gadget that I can just take out the box , plug in, and start using without having to read pages of set-up instructions in an unreadable type-font. I plan to use this when my husband is out of town and I am here alone with the kids by myself. As someone who has actually used this product, I would highly recommend it as a part of a system to try and deter unwanted visitors, whether you are home or not.

i think fake tv is not still enough to provide your home protection. and another thing it will never stop an intruder or a burglar from going inside the house..and another thing it most of burglars or intruders today are not easy to fool..they thinks first before they strike...

I never understood how that would fool people. If someone is watching your house then they actually see you leave. Dont worry, they take the TV so you dont have to worry about running up the light bill

You still need good locks, and a light on a timer remains a good idea. Stop the paper and mail when you are out of town, and get to know your neighbors - that gives you the extra benefit of a more-connected life.

That said, an operating television really conveys the impression of life, and FakeTV is a convincing occupancy simulation.
