I have one of these, I work in the marine industry and so I often have to sleep in a noisy work environment, I'd say the sound range in my quarters was close to a vacuum because of engine noise and vibration, and I'd say these things are great, they really are loud. If you absolutely must be up at a certain time and plan to go drinking the night before or have the same situation with noise where you sleep and use earplugs, this little gadget is a life saver. Also you can buy these in truck stops around the U.S. for around the $20-$30 range (Love's Travel Center is where I got mine, any truck stop with the novelties and electronics in them would probably have them)
