Sci-Phone: iPhone Clone Runs Java Apps, Still Phony

Nope, your eyes aren’t fooling you. This isn’t an actual iPhone. It’s the latest in a long line of iPhone knock-offs to find its way to our shores from China. The SciPhone isn’t the first iPhone clone out there, but it’s the first one I’ve seen that claims to run native Java applications.
The case design and the on-screen icons of the DigitalRise Sci-Phone D990i definitely look quite a bit like a legitimate iPhone, but upon closer look, you’re likely to be able to tell the difference (gotta love that floppy disk icon for documents). The iFake even tries to outdo the original by offering something called “shake control”, which lets you shuffle through songs by simply shaking the phone.
The Sci-Phone D990i features a 3.2-inch color touchscreen (some of the docs say 3.5-inch, so I don’t know which is accurate) , a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, and offers Bluetooth support. Since it’s an unlocked quad-band phone, it’ll work on any GSM-based network, and uses GPRS for data services (sorry no Wi-Fi or 3G ).
With the new iPhone 3G hitting stores next week for just $199, and Sun working on Java support for the real iPhone, you’d be hard pressed to come up with a reason to drop over $200 on this complete fake. The only reason I can think of is if you’re not an AT&T customer and want people to think you have an iPhone. Frankly, you’d be better off picking up an iPod Touch and pretending to speak into it.

Hello. my email address is clvaughn2000@yahoo.com i have programs for the phone.you mention you cant find your programs.you have two steps in order to see your programs under java.first you copy your programs to your computer.then dragg it to your phone on the memory card you put in,,if you added one. now the phone dont have enuff memory to add programs you have to add a memory card to load your programs on..if you have amemory card.make a new folders on the card. apps,games. after this you drag your programs under the right folder.then tapp on that folder then the program you wish to load.it will show you install, do this after its done close this out then open java the program you installed should show up there..another very important thing is your phone uses JAR file for games..only this will work. i found a free file conveter that will convert any files for the sciphone.does very good on movies.

turn the card around do not flip it over try both slots and settings for phone select use both sim cards this is what had to do on mine being ATT and find setting for prefered service select ATT or whatever service provider you have in list
I have tmobile and it is not on the list, everything seems to be China, I had it on at one time but it wont work now. When I did have text message it was in chinese, I did not get a book I am just going crazy, if you can offer any help I would greatly appreciate it.

my sciphone won’t work in certain areas especially my home, it says unalbe to connect or instead of the att symbol it will say emergency also connection failed. When I bring it back to the store it works fine and even at my job. I’m a driver so I’ve noticed when I drive in certain areas it will automactically go to emergency. WHAT CAN I DO. The store manager has switch my phone 3 times. I’m not in the country where there,s no connection I’m in a big city in Texas. What’s the deal?
ill asume youre ATT? do you have both sim card ports in use if only one disable the other find setting for prefered network in settings//phone setup//network and set to automatic see if that does it if not let me know and add if youre not ATT or using a prepaid?
oh also you have a wireless router in home? has in past caused phone reception issues

Im having trouble setting up the internet in my sciphone for at&t. Ive looked up all the settings for medianet and have tried many different versions of the settings and whenI try to cennect to the internet it either says connection failed or comunication error. Im using the pay as you go plan is there something im missing?

Hello everyone,,To people looking for spare parts, im giving up on the sciphone, what happened was the usb cable had a short,next thing i know the touch screen became unresponsive, no matter what i done its still locked..the phone works but locked..Note i did remove the touch screen to make shure of any shorts..but i dont think the touch screens bad,,it a software problem..i tryed the things that were on the cover to get to calibration, i give up..the phone comes with car usb adapter never used,two batteries very good,box and i have a 4 gig tf card with 50 games and apps and a user manuel the good manuel not the one came with the phone..but i do have the oringinal manuel..sciphone need work to unlock the touch screen..it also has the wall battery charger.every thing is very good but the phone..&65.00 firm.you can contact me at clvaughn2000@yahoo.com or by phone 276-627-0006.. thank you..

your sim card is locked. Call AT&T to get the sim card unlocked. It will work fine after that.

try removing battery for 5 min should fall back to default doesnt work msg me

hi tried it all didnt work when i switch phone it all comes on then to get into the phone i have to do the slide but nothing hapens if i touch the screen it vibrates but doesnt slide across however if i then goto power down it lets me slide it across tried taking bat out to reset and nothing

hi lander thanks for your time if i connect it to my comp it says storage or cam i select storage and says ready but thats it the screen is still locked pen or finger doesnt work but works when i want to shut it down or when i want to use storage device on comp but it still doesnt unlock for me to go onto the main menu

I just purchased the phone and the 4g memory. but it does not have a JAVA folder!. Just received! I tried to download one game and did not work! Any suggestions. does it need new ver of JAVA now is ver 2.0. I need to get it working asap since I will travel overseas in a week. thank mark
you have icon looks like penguin with 2 circles thats the china version of java mostly in chineese but should have another icon says java it be empty cause need to go to memory card and tell it to install if you copied it to card then go to java icon games after installed will be there

I’m having the same trouble. I purchased a 2GB memory card so that I’d have plenty of memory to hold music, but when I try to transfer mp3 files from my computer to the phone, I’m told that I don’t have enough memory.
Does anyone out there have any SIMPLE directions for those of us that aren’t too tech-savvy?

steve you have external memory card in or just using phones internal memory? if have card in go to folder icon or says files then could be in main window scroll down or go to audio folder music be there you trying to sink it to player need to forward music files to MMS then tell it to use player and save this solve issue if not follow up to email Ty

I would like to install Java programs, but when I choose the “Java” icon on my i68+, it says that there is no Java software installed.

I brought one of the phone 2 weeks ago and I had some problems with the touch screem.(I calibrated) I answered about 4 calls last evening and then try to make a call. the phone was dead. I changed the battery but nothing happen. The power button appears not to be working as the phone is not turning on. This is quite strange for a new phone could you please give me some assistance with it.
holding power button dont do anything? try holding it for like 30 secs dont work try taking battery out using usb cable to pc with no battery in note: the power adapter unplugs it is the usb cord to pc dont work try with batter in and plugged into pc did you drop phone? it new most sellers honor warantee maybe just bad power button even new can have issues thats why warantee on most things
Thanks for your response, and no, I did not drop the phone. I tried your suggestions attaching the usb cable to pc without battery and with battry and the phone is unresponsive. (doesn’t work at all) I even tried taking out the battry and the sim card and then re-install and still nothing.
make sure the battery is with the printing that reads with the writing in english facing up
I have an issue getting the java app into the mass storage so that I can install the jave software. I’ve try numerous ways to install the java software on my sciphone i68+ but I’ve been running the wall. I can’t get it to install – HELP!!!

try phone reset its in settings code default is 1122 but also can try 1234 restores factory settings if have enternet or had to setup wap–mms–gprs might copy youre info down before reset

I have just got my HI i9++ 3G 8GB Unlocked Cell Phone i68+ and put my sim card in and it works.
The other sim card wont fit as the sim 2 fitting is so small??? any help. both sims are normal size

just a note i have studied several models of the sci phones and functions,features, compared to the apple iphones and my opinion is M88 model also known by driver version MT 6235 is the best has wifi to bounce off wireless it auto configs self and conects to open conectionsgama corection default was 3 but 1 not bad but real good on power only flaw have found is 12-24 hour setting as mines on 24 hour time ”dont care for military time” but real good phone at a fraction of the cost to apple now you say ok ATT contract its 100.00 but you will get stuck with enternet at 30.00 plus voice,text charges adds to bought 55.00 now with this no contract and only need basic enternet to do all the apple does at 10.00 and a reg text package unless you use the online texting
