sci-phone: iphone clone runs java apps, still phony
Nope, your eyes aren’t fooling you. This isn’t an actual iPhone. It’s the latest in a long line of iPhone knock-offs to find its way to our shores from China. The SciPhone isn’t the first iPhone clone out there, but it’s the first one I’ve seen that claims to run native Java applications.
The case design and the on-screen icons of the DigitalRise Sci-Phone D990i definitely look quite a bit like a legitimate iPhone, but upon closer look, you’re likely to be able to tell the difference (gotta love that floppy disk icon for documents). The iFake even tries to outdo the original by offering something called “shake control”, which lets you shuffle through songs by simply shaking the phone.
The Sci-Phone D990i features a 3.2-inch color touchscreen (some of the docs say 3.5-inch, so I don’t know which is accurate) , a 1.3-megapixel digital camera, and offers Bluetooth support. Since it’s an unlocked quad-band phone, it’ll work on any GSM-based network, and uses GPRS for data services (sorry no Wi-Fi or 3G ).
With the new iPhone 3G hitting stores next week for just $199, and Sun working on Java support for the real iPhone, you’d be hard pressed to come up with a reason to drop over $200 on this complete fake. The only reason I can think of is if you’re not an AT&T customer and want people to think you have an iPhone. Frankly, you’d be better off picking up an iPod Touch and pretending to speak into it.

I have another screen freeze problem, I cant scroll across to unlock it but when I hold down the power button I am able to scroll across to power off. Ive tried everthing on this page and nothing has worked for me. any suggestions?
i bought my partner a mini phone ka08 it done the same thing so i pulled the battery out for 30minutes then replaced it and it hasn’t done it since so give that a try and see how you go thanks

it happened to me but i think it over-heated cos it was boiling hot so i left it to cool down but that didnt work so i put it on carge abd once the batterie was fullky charged it worked again!u might not have the same problem tho
It could be that the touch screen connections inside are loose, try pressing down in the bottom left hand corner on the phone then slide to unlock, instead of pressing the power button, if it is that then id would suggest re-hotting the solder on the circuit board.

turn the phone off and take the battery and sim for 30 secs and put back the battery ans sim and just hold the power button ntill you see the phone turn on it should work helped me.

remove battery for 24 hours it does have a weak back up battery for just settings if main phone battery goes dead so dont loose info once it is actualy reset able get in i would recalibrate pen…. setup instructions should be on backing of the battery cover i68-9 models or go to settings find pen options/calibrate
update note
recomend using pen for calibration for main 4 corners then center ”mine it still calibrates a second time” then go to finger for more acuracy

carefull what say to youre cell phone providers ATT has a standard charge i was told you inform them you have a iphone ”type” they will automaticly charge for it me was told 30.00 for service on top of the reg plan and 10.00 additional for the tv features along with other charges and any has ATT got that message on bill last 2-3 months bought they reserve the right to charge for imitation iphones alot are coming out and ATT/apple lost control lol

does anybody have a video or instructions on taking apart the i9? I want to see if I can change the antenna because i get absolutely no signal anywhere
ok so i figured out how to take it apart and it apears that somebody already tried to and ripped the ribbon for the antenna. thats prob why i dnt get any signal. anyone got any ideas on what i could use for a new antenna?
if the ribon can unplug even though it is torn might try contacting a seller off ebay or go to manufatures site and try getting the part to replace it is one idea…could try a cell phone repair shop also never really had issue with replacing the ribon but best guess there if you locate or a replacement part please post for others ty
I was able to replace the antenna incase this helps anyone else. I removed the original antenna treced the excact shape into a piece of aluminum foil and i made the ribbons slighlty longer since they had been torn. I the soldered the ribbons where the original ones where soldered on and stuck the rest onto the back cover of the phone should look just like the original. Presto!! i got 3 bars
Just fyi, u can use just about any metal(copper is usually best) for an antenna, just make sure that u are using the same wavelength as the original manufacturer EG.. Full, Half, Quarter

I have searched and found Australian three settings insructions for my SciPhone i9+++ but I still cant get onto the net or MMS. I followed the instructions but the internet services page is blanl. The con. management icon wont activate and the internet services page is blank although the G symbol appers at the top in yellow. Any advice please.

follow links in older comments at bottom of page for wep–mms–gprs setup and youre old phone have internet? you using a isp or prepaid? if didnt enable internet from service provider tellm to enable basic internet and try not letting them know its a iphone so dont get raped on charges if using a prepaid contact that carrier for info needed will need to program manualy the dhcp/isp/dns also with wep-mms-gprs

i dropped the 0 and added +61 so instead of 0414 its +61414
when i did this i found that the names came up in my text msgs but when eva any1 called their name didnt come up so i saved all numbers 2 both phone and sim and the 1s saved 2 the phone i left as 0419…… and the 1s i saved 2 the sim i put as +61419…. and now i can c who is msging me and calling me : )

I found a way to get the military time off of a i9. Im not sure if it would be the same in the i68. I went into settings where you change the time and date. When i selected the time to change it there was an option for 24hrs and i changer it to 12hrs. The only prob was that i couldnt change from am to pm. I had to set the correct time in the 24 hr mode first and then change it to 12 hrs. Hope it helps

If you can’t download MMS, this means that the service is not activated on your phone. You can enable the feature by watching this very informative youtube video which will give you step by step instructions. Simply look for either the TMobile or ATT setup video. The video selection can also be used to setup the corresponding internet feature on your Sciphone.

does anyone have sprint as their provider and useing the Sciphone??? wondering if the majors will let you use a phone that they dont sell?
The Sciphone is an gsm only phone, but… the radio(antenna, recption device ect…)in the phone can be switched to either cdma(verizon) or sprint(pcs). It is costly, truthfully not worth it. we are talking almost $200 for a radio swithch. Nextel and boost(i-den) can work, but useless because there is no ptt button.
so the I9 sciphone will work on the boost network or are you talking with a radio swap it will????

Trying to program Sciphone with Boost Mobile sim card. Having trouble with IMEI number on the website when trying to program. Boost doesn’t recognize the number. It gives error message asking for 00 in front of the IMEI number but there isn’t room for 00 before the IMEI number. Any suggestions?

I just recently purchased a sciphone i68. I have several questions. First where can you put a memory card in this phone? I can not find a slot for a memory card.. Second is there a website i can download games and applications for my phone. and last my phone has many differant icons for differant games, but when i touch the icon to try and start the game i recieve the message please install the java game. So i am confused is the game not actually in the phone, just the icon for the game or do i have to do something in the phone to get the games to work??

on the back of the phone next to where the sim goes is a s[pot for your micro sd card it fits in and the u lock it with the silver piece has lock and open written on it
i have the same problem with my games mine dont work either and i havnt found any where to down load them.

i have downloaded alot of games for this phone and installed then but they dont work. i only found one to work and thats like bejewelled which is simular to the sushi game already on the phone. I bought a disc from ebay for under 10 bucks with games and a manual on it hopefully when i recieve that i will be able to access more things for this phone

thanks for putting the orange settings for uk. I’m wanting to set up a uk orange sim card in spain – but only tmobile and vodaphone come up – do you know how to bring up the orange network abroad. I’m planning on using this when i frequently travel back to uk some in spain and worldwide like australa and america – but it keeps on saying you need to subscribe to GPRS – but it’s not bringing up the orange network. Do I need to select the vodaphone network and then press change account name? there doesn”t seem to be any options to start an account from scratch theres all these odd ones like a &t and china mobile which i’m confused at.
