r2-d2 projection alarm clock: it’s droid time

R2-D2 is a master of product merchandising. The little droid’s likeness has appeared on everything from desktop speakers to USB hubs and salt and pepper shakers. Now you can take Artoo to bed with you every night with this new alarm clock.

This October, UK toy maker Wesco Limited will release these tabletop R2-D2 alarm clocks. While this pint-sized R2 unit can’t display holograms of Princess Leia, he can at least project the current time on your wall. There’s also a little LCD time read out for daytime viewing (since these LED projection clocks have a tendency to only work well in a dark room).

So far, the clocks are only available for pre-order in the UK, but hopefully they’ll find their way stateside sometime soon. In the mean time, head on over to Play.com or Amazon UK and see if they’ll ship internationally.

DO NOT BUY! This is so cheap! I waited 10 days for this and was excited in anticipation the whole time. It came and the LED display only shows up when you hit a button and it only lasts for 15 seconds. Also, the alarm clock goes off for one minute and then turns off, even if you don’t turn it off yourself.
That’s a real bummer. Sorry to hear it’s so crappy. It looked pretty decent from the pictures.
