This new interactive toy from Japan involves sticking your finger in a hole on the side of the box to interact with a virtual environment. Really. I’m not kidding.

Bandai’s new Tuttuki Bako handheld interactive plaything requires you to twiddle your finger around inside the orifice to play with a variety of virtual characters on an LCD screen on the front of the device. Think augmented reality Tamagotchi, and you’ve pretty much got the point.

There are six play modes ranging from pushing around a tiny little person, to ticking someone’s nose, to petting a pint-size panda bear. All very weird indeed.

Now that you’re all hot and bothered from that video clip, I bet you’re just dying put your finger in one of these. Just gather up your ¥3610 (appx. $37 USD), get your Katakana to English dictionary out and head on over to the Rakuten Strapya shop.

  1. CoolProducts says:

I’d feel bad for the little guy that my giant finger was assaulting!

  2. Now that totally looks like something that the Japanese would create…and enjoy more than anyone else in the world. It’s such a quirky little device…very strange for sure.

  3. Japanese are always surprising.
I found this stupid tool very significant from an HCI pov - we love to be involved with our body into the action and feel that we are part of the action. Tv makes you passive, this stupid tool is about making digital part of your body and throw you in the middle of the game - wonderful

  4. So for $37 you can…poke things? Very odd gadget indeed. Now if you stuck your finger into a virtual nail salon and it came out manicured–now THAT’S a handy gadget! :)

  5. Sly Hoax says:

I’m afraid of what might happen to my finger if I stick it in there… does this mean I have digital (finger) claustrophobia?

  6. RosenRed says:

Ok, you have four play modes, they have a fifth (Sea Stage) and I wonder what the sixth is… No wait… Could it be? Nah, I must be hot and bothered from watching the clip… They wouldn’t dare…

  7. Thats pretty cool. This game comes with digital snot. Awesome

  8. Very cool toy but very porno also, sticking a finger inside a device? What was the inventor thinking.

    Overall it’s cool.

  9. TechToyBoy says:

Those boxes are fun to play with and human interaction will take it to the next level.

  10. Chainsaw says:

I can’t wait until someone hacks the software.

Some women would be REALLY HAPPY if their boyfriends had a training tool like this, and worked out regularly.

On the other hand (so to speak) it would be just as easy to make a Godzilla/Grand Theft Auto crossbreed, where the goal is to crush as many little creatures as possible… you too, can stomp Tokyo with one finger!
