r2-d2, stripped down to all metal

It’s comforting to note that Star Wars favorite R2-D2 is just as cool when he’s stripped of his iconic blue and white. At the recent Maker Faire, a colorless version was on display, and really stands out next to the more accurate replicas.

All of the character but none of the color. The body, too, is naked, hollowed out, as though this were the little guy’s metal skeleton on display. The project is a little macabre, a little minimalist, and the result is all incredible.

Unfortunately, from the photos uploaded to Flickr, I’m not sure who is responsible for this project; from the links, it looks like the photographer was next to these people. Whoever you are, Maker-of-Metal-Bots, nice work.
