Homebrew NES Puzzle Quest Clone Lines It Up Old School

June 12th, 2009 by: Alisha K.

Puzzle Quest is almost universally recognized as an addictive phenomenon, the kind of game that sinks its claws into your face and doesn’t let go until your fingers start threatening to fall the hell off. But there’s really not much to the visuals, and that seems to be part of the motivation behind a recent homebrew takeoff… that was written for the NES.

GemVenture has character classes, spells, and gem matching–everything you need to fight an epic battle. You’ve also got to have an NES emulator, of course, and a lot of time on your hands. I just did a little test play and lost an hour of my life.I could stack up gems all day long.

Is this still being worked on? I would love to see it continued. Add music, maybe some monster graphics between the levels. Also a proper ending. I think I beat the game. It just ended after the sea hag with an odd screen.
