I have been using a desktop GSM phone for the last 2 years without problems, except for the worry that the phones did not have FCC certification. But now I have found a very good, low cost, FCC certified desktop GSM phone: the Huawei GSM 3353.

I can ship such a device which will allow you to insert any gsm or cdma sim card and then you can hook up and normal landline/desk phone to this device – make it cordless.. or use with EPABX..

The CVFK-M14-US does very poorly compared to a basic Samsung SGH-t139 cell phone. They are both located in the same room, within 10′ of each other.
Calls to Samsung succeed, calls to the desktop unit fail to connect.

Looks like the problem is handling a marginal signal from T-Mobile;
the CVFK-M14-US seems to work fine with AT&T’s network.
Now I am trying a side-by-side test with an inexpensive T-Mobile
prepaid phone.

Cellular bluetooth gateways seem to be a viable alternative: google U118 or cell2tel.

I purchased the China Vision desktop cell phone (CVFK-M14-US);
very nice in concept, but maddeningly unreliable with my location/carrier
(West Maui/T-Mobile prepaid). The unit works fine after a reset, but soon gets into a confused state where it can not place or receive calls until once again reset.
I am about to investigate what kind of support is available with this product;
not holding my breath. I am also getting a conventional T-Mobile prepaid phone to test whether this is a T-Mobile issue.

the guys in australia, http://www.bluesim.com.au have a better unit, works via bluetooth so you can take the phone sim card with but will connect back when you are on your desk top.

Almost what I have been looking for. I want to add my grandmother to my cell phone plan for $10 per month. I want to give her a landline looking phone that she will always use at home. She picks up the phone, makes her calls and does not know or care that she is making cell phone calls. The only thing missing is that I want the phone to be a wireless headset so she can move freely around her house. Has anyone seen such a product?
