R2-D2 Coffee Mug Flips Its Lid for a Cuppa Java
September 2nd, 2009
I have no idea why it’s taken over 30 years for someone to come up with an R2-D2 coffee cup, but it looks like the Star Wars licensing crew has finally given in to their caffeine cravings and authorized one.
And a damned fine R2-D2 coffee cup it is, complete with a removable dome that’ll keep your coffee warm when you leave it sitting on your desk. For the time being, CubeWorks’ ceramic R2 mug is only available in Japan, but I’m hopeful somebody will decide to import some so I can finally satisfy my Starbucks and Star Wars addictions in a single maneuver.
I found these over on Japan’s Tanomi hobby site for ¥1800 (appx. $20 bucks) each, but by they time to pay to ship something this fragile from Japan, I’m betting you’ll be paying more for shipping than the mug itself cost.
Technabob geek gift tip: Goes great with this Star Wars Coffee T-shirt.

This is so going on my collectors shelf. Who knows how long they will make them.
Do you know whether they are made in japan or china. who is the maker?
I’m actually not sure. I found them on a Japanese website, so I assumed they were from Japan. As for the manufacturer, I’m not sure. However, the guys at GeekStuff4U now carry them, so you can order one from them and find out:
