the leopard board cameras drivers are not opensourced expect the vga one.. and they dont work above linux 2.6.10

Also check http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK which will let you override the built-in software of a Canon Powershot pocket camera, and even has a scripting environment.

If you already want to start tinkering, get the LeopardBoard (http://leopardboard.org/) from Leopard Imaging. It is completely open source, based on a TI ARM (TMS320DM355 DaVinci), costs only $99 and has interchangeable CCD’s (from VGA, 1.5M to 5M)… and also the community has a close relationship with the BeagleBoard.

Great work guys, I have been a Nikon Photographer for years and would love to have more programmable flexibility. Specifically in the HDR area. There is no reason why the sensor can’t do it all in 1 shot other than programming.
