rainbow brite and carebear in mortal kombat

These paintings by pixel artist Jude Buffum show what happens when cute 80s kids toys take each other on in a battle to the death, Mortal Kombat style. Looks like CareBear has ripped out Teddy Ruxpin’s heart in an awesome finishing move known as the “heart attack”. (also known as the quart of blood technique).

And Rainbow Brite took care of little miss Strawberry Shortcake with a firm kick to the neck. And in the words of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs – heads will roll, heads will roll on the floor.

I only wish he had rounded out the collection with a Smurf vs. Smurfette painting, complete with Sub-Zero’s head and spine removal technique. I can dream, can’t I?
You can get your hands on Giclee prints of both for $35 (USD) each over at Jude’s website.

These are way too cute (is that the right word?), but I have to admit I was slightly disappointed when I realized it wasn’t a flash game.
