The Internet is Nominated for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize

While we freely give away Internets – as in “you win over 9,000 Internets, sir” – for awesome content seen online, this intangible infrastructure of awesome might soon win an award itself. And not just any award – the Internet is in the running for the Nobel Peace Prize. Whaaaaat? Wired Italy spearheaded the efforts to nominate the Internet for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, describing it as a “weapon of mass construction.” But if we were to ask Jeff Atwood, he’d probably say that it’s more of a “mass distraction”:
I can’t read Italian, and the Google-translated version of the announcement on Wired Italy’s website is barely understandable, but it seems that – this is so damn strange, I can’t believe I’m writing this – in the unlikely event that the Internet wins the award, inventors Larry Roberts, Vinton Cerf and Tim Berners-Lee will be the ones to accept the Nobel Peace Prize in its behalf – the Internet has no hands, you see. What do you guys think?
Does our means of work, education, communication and entertainment deserve a Nobel Peace Prize? Why didn’t Wired Italy nominate Roberts, Cerf and Berners-Lee directly? Won’t it feel wrong to search for porn via a Nobel Peace Prize winner?

1. Its really heartening to learn of your esteemed magazine “Wired Italy” pushing for the nomination of the internet for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. Its an idea whose time has come.
2. The internet has helped promote the cause of the world-peace and democracy. It has provided the easiest and monetarily cheapest way/means for the Global Citizens cutting across the barriers of polity and geography to reach out to the policy-makers/decision-takers in an effective way.
3. It might be interesting and instructive to know how the Internet helps do this. Well, it happens like this – YOU EMAIL TO THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES WITH YOUR EFFECTIVE IDEAS/OPINIONS.ALSO, YOUR THESE GREAT IDEAS/OPINIONS PUT ON BLOGS ARE READ BY GENERAL READERS/POLICY MAKESR/DECISION TAKERS.THE AUTHORITIES/OFFICIALS CERTAINLY GO THROUGH YOUR IDEAS/OPINIONS. THESE IDEAS/OPINIONS INFLUENCE THEIR THOUGHT PROCESS WHICH ULTIMATELY GETS REFLECTED IN THEIR SUBSEQUENT POLICIES MADE AND DECISIONS TAKEN. NOW, LET US BE VERY CLEAR – YOU MAY NOT GET THE CREDIT FOR THOSE IDEAS/OPINIONS- BUT, THEN YOU HAVE INDIRECTLY HELPED PROMOTE THE CAUSE OF THE PEACE/DEMORACY IN THE WORLD.
4. NOW, YOU MAY ASK ME TO SUBSTANTIATE/SUPPORT MY AFORESAID STATEMENT WITH SOME EXAMPLE. I CAN GIVE YOU MY OWN EXAMPLE IN THIS REGARD. I have sent numerous emails to the WHITE HOUSE/USA PRESIDENT/VICE-PRESIDENT, since the year 2005, containing my effective views/thoughts/ideas/opinions on numerous topics having a direct/indirect bearing on the world-peace/democracy. My this work has influenced definitely the thought process of the USA/WHITE HOUSE/AMERICAN ADMINISTRATION IN A WAY THAT HAS FURTHERED THE CAUSE OF THE WORLD-PEACE AND DEMOCRACY. TO CITE JUST ONE EXAMPLE, THE RECENT RECONCILIATION-APPROACH OF THE AMERICAN ADMINISTRATION TOWARDS THE AFGHAN-TALIBAN ISSUE. WHILE THE THEN GENERAL MUSHARRAF, THE PAKISTANI PRESIDENT HAD ADVOCATED FINISHING THE AFGHAN TALIBAN, I HAD ADVISED THE USA ADMINISTRATION TO ADOPT THE RECONCILIATION APPROACH through my emails. NOW, ITS AMPLY CLEAR, THE APPROACH ADVOCATED BY ME HAS CERTAINLY BEEN ADOPTED BY THE USA ADMINISTRATION/EUROPEAN COMMUNITY WHICH FAVOURED THROUGH THE RECENT LONDON CONFERENCE THE RECONCILIATION APPROACH ON THE VEXING AFGHAN-TALIBAN ISSUE. Internet aka Web is called “the weapon of mass construction.” Don’t get surprised if you see “Internet” climb the podium to collect the Nobel Peace Prize award in 2010. The Internet has made the list of nominees going up against a Chinese dissident and a Russian human rights activist among others.
