Now this is something that a lot of women would like to have in their own homes: Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido installed a digital cosmetic mirror at the Takashimaya department store in Shinjuku that lets customers test make up without actually trying it on, thanks to the magic of augmented reality.

Similar to the character creation screen typically found in RPGs, customers can select from a wide range of cosmetics (using a touchscreen interface), and the terminal projects makeup onto the customers face instantly, a shower of virtual glitter twinkling as the customer swaps colors or… umm other aspects that vary in cosmetics. Styles or something. Customers can also choose default characters templates recommendations based on their facial features.

One of my imaginary sources also said that Shiseido is working on a similar device for men, letting them try on different styles of facial hair (none of which are actually decent) and beer bellies of varying shapes and sizes.
