Bought the iPad, but Too Cheap to Buy a Stand?

Despite their willingness to drop dough on bleeding-edge technology, there are some geeks out there who are frugal. They will buy a nice gadget like the iPad, but they will never buy any accessories to make using the gadget better. If you are this sort of geek and you want a stand for your iPad, but are too cheap to buy one you can build this one for free.

Make has the simple instructions for taking the packing materials from inside the iPad box and turning them into a cool stand. All you need to do is take one of the pieces of cardboard that held the iPad inside the box and cut it in half.

Then you cut a slit across that piece at an angle and cram the iPad in the slit. The iPad will stand up, assuming you didn’t cut the slit wrong. You would be able to use the stand in portrait or landscape modes. The irony of a sleek glass and aluminum $500 gadget sitting in a post-consumer waste recycled paper stand isn’t lost on me.
