Windroid Phone Runs Windows Mobile + Android
September 15th, 2010
Can’t decide what sort of a smartphone to buy? The WinDroid is the perfect phone for you indecisive folks out there.

The phone ships with the none-too-thrilling Android 1.6 OS (but can be upgraded to 2.1 – voiding its warranty, though). The Windows side of the house runs Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro. The touchscreen phone is capable of dual-booting between Windows Mobile and Android OS. Under the hood of this unusual phone is a speedy Marvell PXA310 CPU, running at 624MHz. It’s an unlocked quad-band GSM phone, meaning you can use it pretty much anywhere on the planet too.
The hardware isn’t exactly cutting-edge, but a 2-megapixel digital camera, Bluetooth 2.0, and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi should do the trick for most basic needs. The screen’s meager 240×400 resolution may have you going a little crosseyed if you’re used to today’s super-sharp displays. And despite its rather hefty 0.55″ thick profile, there’s no keyboard from what I can tell. At least there’s GPS capability, so you can use Google Maps for navigation. Sure, the hardware doesn’t sound too thrilling, but can your phone do this?

Nope? Didn’t think so. You can get your hands on the WinDroid phone over at Chinavasion for $239 (USD). If you’re looking for a single device that can run all the Microsoft and Google apps, it’s definitely one to check out. Apple fanboys and girls, you’re out of luck. Maybe next year ChinaVasion will offer up an iPhoWinDroid.

If this can be upgraded to Android 2.1, where can you download it and how do you install it?
Not sure actually. The guys at Chinavasion just say it can be, then the following note : “Note: Any alterations such as upgrades or flashing the cellphone and installing a newer version will void the cellphone’s warranty. However, advanced users have reported successful upgrades to the latest Android 2.1 operating system. The Android operating system is stored on the micro SD card. If you plan on changing the SD card make sure to copy the contents of the original card over to the new one. “
Just get the HTC HD2, get a SD Card, get Android from xda-developers.com and put it on the SD Card. There you go: you can anytime boot to Android from that and have Windows Mobile also included.
Also the Hardware is much better and you do not void your warranty.
I read your post very impressed seen this kind of important information’s. Really am interested to back to your blog again to gather some more information’s.
I bought one, it’s pretty good. Flashed it already after I messed up android. They wouldn’t know if you installed anything if you flash it back again before returning it, assuming you could flash it. I use it mostly in Windoze, there are loads of free apps for Windoze mobile now anyway. It installs a Samsung driver, if you watch the screen carefully when you first connect it to the PC. I think it’s made from recycled parts from Samsungs, returned through sites like mazuma mobile… that’s just my guess anyway and explains the Samsung USB driver, but I might be wrong.
