Zombies and Riverboats: the Survival Guide to the Upcoming Zombie Apocalypse

by

This is the SS Huckleberry, and one of only four entries in the 2010 Zombie Safe House Competition. When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense going on the rivers, since zombies will probably have trouble eating you if they have to swim.

Like many people, I found The Walking Dead on AMC a welcome distraction, but it was somewhat boring story-wise. The survivors should definitely opt for something like this, allowing them to move around the coastal areas of the USA without getting too swamped by zombies. Designer Shea Michael Trahan even went so far to provide directions for creating zombie diesel fuel to power the boat. Brilliant.

If you’re interested, there’s going to be another contest for 2011 but all in all, this one looks like a pretty good option, as zombie safe houses go. Those pesky zombies; staying underground never works against them. You need to stay mobile.

I kept wondering why they weren’t shacked up on a house boat or hiding out on an island in a lake or something in the Walking Dead. That said Zombies can’t swim but I would assume they would eventually walk across the bottom of said lake and come meandering out of the water at some point.Safest place would be protected by piranha to eat the dead, then you would have a zombie piranha infestation to deal with.
