January 5th, 2011
The gang over at Withings is all about using tech and gadgets to help people stay fit and healthy. These folks have that scale that interfaces with the iPhone, tracks your weight, and will tweet your weight if you want it to. The latest medical gadget from Withings is for the iPhone and makes it easy to monitor your blood pressure.
There are lots of folks out there with high blood pressure that have to keep a close eye on their readings and the Withings Blood Pressure monitor will make that easy. The device works with the iPhone, plugs into the bottom of the iPhone into the sync port, and stores readings from the special cuff to an app running on the device.
The cuff has a small pump that does all of the inflating and deflating for the user so all they need to do is sit still. The device will also share the readings on Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault for archiving and sharing with care providers. The system will sell for about $129 (USD) and will ship later this month.
