Turn 3D Glasses Into 2D Glasses: How Sad is It That We Have to Do This?
February 10th, 2011
I don’t know about you guys but I’m no fan of 3D movies. At best they’re distracting, and at worst they give me headaches. Fortunately, the folks at Tested have figured out a pretty simple way of watching 3D movies in glorious 2D, although you might not want to follow the first step of their how-to, which is “steal two pairs of 3D glasses from a theater”.

The hack involves swapping the lenses from both glasses so that one frame ends up with two left lenses and the other ends up with two right lenses. Of course getting the lenses out depends on the 3D glasses you should have legally procured, but if they’re similar to the ones pictured above then you should have no problem. Here’s what you need to do:
You can also view and download a higher quality version of the video at Tested. Now if I could just find a workaround for the all too realistic volume levels in movies, I’ll be a happy moviegoer. I’d like to hear dialogue as well as I hear explosions and any other sound louder than the human voice, thank you very much.

why would you want to do this? pay $300 to destroy the glasses so that they turn into two shitty pairs of sunglasses.
Some people find seeing a 3d movie gives them a headache or they just don’t like it. But viewing the movie without glasses you get the blurry look of separated images. By having two left or two right lenses, you flatten the movie to 2D because you can only see one of the two images that make up the 3D.
$300? where do you go to the cinema for your 3d glasses? they are like £1 each over here in the uk
Can’t you just buy a pair of polarized sunglasses? Or are these different in some way?
AFAIK they are different. The polarization of these 3D glasses goes in spirals but polarized sunglasses go horizontal.
Aw, that’s really too bad.
This is great, my boyfriend has a bad eye so he can’t see the effects and I just plain dislike them. The only problem is most cinemas only show the 2D versions of movies at unpopular times which is a pain. Thanks to this, that’s one problem solved! B)
