There are few markets where the old adage “you get what you pay for” are more true than in the gadget market. You can spend a bit less money and get a device that is far less useful on the smartphone and tablet market. A new and very cheap Android tablet has landed from Ouku with a bargain price. Whether or not it’s worth the low price of entry remains to be seen.

The Ouku M98A tablet [Chinese] sells for just $124.99(USD) over at Lightinthebox and it runs Android 2.1. It can surf the web and download apps from the Android Market. The screen has 800×480 resolution and is 7-inches wide. Keep in mind that it’s only got a resistive touchscreen, so you won’t be able to do multitouch gestures. Other features include WiFi, support for email, integrated speakers, and a G-sensor.

The front-facing camera on the tablet is a 0.3MP unit. The battery is 1620mAh and it is good for 4-5 hours of continuous use. It ships with just 4GB of storage, but that can be expanded using a TF (microSD) memory card to 16GB. Contrary to the specs at Lightinthebox, Ouku lists the tablet with a 600MHz ARM 11 CPU and Rockchip 2818 media decoder, not the ARM 9, which is probably why it can support 720p video playback. All in all, this thing doesn’t look too bad for just north of $100 bucks.

Actually I’ve seen this tablet priced between 125 and 225 dollars. You would be as stupid to pay 225 for this as you would for some of the other crap in the 200 dolllar price range. For $125.00 they make no great claims about this tablet. All they advertise is that it works pretty well for what it’s got. It browses, plays youtube, plays casual games, takes pictures and records video, plays music and plays movies.
No HDMI, but it does come with Android market. I can live with that. Actually for $125.00 it’s what I would expect. I’d take this over some of the crap that’s being sold at 200+ bucks.

  6. Here is Similar Story

In the gadget world, you often get what you pay for. Some folks really want a gadget like a new Android tablet and are willing to risk poor performance in exchange for buying a cheap and little known brand of tablet like the Ouku Tab that is now available on Lightinthebox. The tablet is a 7-inch offering that runs Android 2.1 and sells for $124.99.

  7. Well its no HTC FLyer, but at that price?! Kind of cool.

Don’t be stupid to not trust this tablet! I have one my own and it is so friggin’ awsome!
It has a tracker ball and one secret weapon… If there is a hard rendering 3D game that takes much cpu, The cpu speed can be as intensive as 1Ghz clockspeed. Video is of course great. Pictures are awsome for such a low webcam! And it can be used for skype or other programs to video chat. Even if Ouku saz that this tablet can’t, it can. You need Fring. Super speed, good webcam, great games and a large amount of apps that you can download with your google account from the android market!
