App Lets You Use Sixaxis Controller with Some Android Devices

Many of us would like better gaming controls on our touch-based devices. I can’t think of anything better than a PS3 Sixaxis controller for the job, and it looks like Dancing Pixel Studios agrees.

The studio has a new app for Android devices called Sixaxis Controller. It should be obvious what it’s goal in life is. It wants to get you gaming using your Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controller on Android phones and tablets. Now that is something we can all say “Hell Yeah!” to.

Here’s the catch: The app only works on Android devices that have been rooted, and the other thing is it won’t work with some newer devices, like those from HTC and newer Samsung devices. The other caveat is that first you must connect the device to a Windows PC via a USB cable. Once you have everything ready to go, you can connect up to four controllers to one device and even customize your buttons.

Ideally we would want less hassle, but the ability to play using a traditional controller is well worth it. The first thing you’ll want to do is check out Dancing Pixel’s free app, Sixaxis Compatibility Checker, to see if your hardware is compatible. If it is, then Sixaxis Controller is available from the Android marketplace for $1.67 (USD).
