The iMaschine app is supposed to be like having a recording studio in your pocket. While this claim may be overblown, the app does function as a sampler, sequencer, and audio processor, so it’s getting close to making a small and portable studio out of your beloved iPhone.

The program allows you to record complete songs on the fly using your iPhone., and includes the ability to play and record on a 16 pad sequencer, jam out on a keyboard, record vocals, and apply effects, then save the entire track for upload to your computer or the Internet.

Check out the video below in which Jamie Lidell creates an entire song while lying in bed. The song was completely created in one take. Now they can’t guarantee that your own creations will be as awesome, but it’s nice to know it’s possible.

I don’t know why, but for some reason, I’m reminded of that scene from Back to the Future, where Marty McFly poses as “Darth Vader” and tortures his dad using a Walkman to try and get him and his mom back together before he’s erased.

You can grab the iMaschine app over at the iTunes App Store now for $4.99 (USD).
