Say Goodbye to Spoiled Milk with Milkmaid
June 12th, 2012
Nothing sucks more than taking out that carton of milk from the refrigerator early in the morning and noticing that it expired the day before yesterday. Not only is it a waste of otherwise good milk, it also gives you a bad start to your day if it really tastes spoiled.
The solution? Milkmaid, which is the smartest milk jug you’ll ever see made – if it does get made, that is. Milkmaid is a result of a competition set up by General Electric and crowdsourcing site Quirky.
Here’s how it works: Just insert a SIM card into the SmartBase of Milkmaid, pour your milk in, and that’s it. The SmartBase actually has an emdedded pH meter that keeps track of the freshness and quality of the milk inside the jug.
When the milk has spoiled, the SmartBase will send out a message to your phone telling you that it’s time to pick up another carton from your local grocery store. There are also LED sensors on the outside of the base that informs you straight away about the condition of the milk inside: green if it’s still good, and orange if it’s already gone bad.
Interested? Want to see it become a reality? Then check out Milkmaid on Quirky to let them know how much you’d be willing to pay for the gadget and show your support.

Seriously, this is one of the most useless inventions I’ve seen in years. You can smell when milk has gone bad, and who buys milk in quarts?
