The Kick Portable Mini Studio Lighting: App & Gear Combo Promises Better Pics and Video

by Range

There’s an app for that. How many times have you heard that? Well, a Norwegian-based studio, Rift Labs, has come up with The Kick, a portable photo/video lighting system for smartphones and DSRLs that will allow you to ensure that you’re taking the best pics possible.

You can get on-the-go illumination from The Kick’s portable LED lighting panel, which is controlled through a smartphone for easy use. The Kick allows you to adjust color temperature, add color, animate lights, and has built-in effects such as fire or lightning for use in small scale digital video productions.

You can even sample the light quality or effects from video and use it as a source for color or effects. You can also control multiple Kick lights with a single phone.

The Kick is being crowdfunded through Kickstarter, and with 28 days left, they’ve amassed $95,000 out of their $115,000 goal. They’ll most likely get completely funded in a couple of days. A pledge of at least $149(USD) will get you a Wi-Fi enabled Kick unit, while $89 will get you the basic version where you can only adjust the colors directly on the light itself.
