Review: Divoom Voombox Party Bluetooth Speaker

The Divoom Voombox Party is a great little speaker if you’re looking for big, clean sound in a small package. Measuring in at about 9″ wide, this portable Bluetooth speaker offers up enough volume to fill a living room, dining room or deck, so it’s perfect for adding music to any occasion.

While the speaker is constructed primarily from plastic and rubber, it’s got metal grilles on both front and rear, and it feels substantial and well constructed. Pairing worked flawlessly, and if you have an NFC-compliant phone, connecting is instant when you hold your phone to the speaker. Otherwise, you just press the Bluetooth pairing button and find the speaker in your device’s menu.

Sound is provided by a pair of 2″ full range speakers, a 3″ subwoofer and a pair of passive radiators on the back. With 20 watts of power, volume is plentiful, and I noticed no perceptible distortion, and sound is clean and natural across the spectrum. That said, there’s a tiny bit of audible hiss at very low volume levels, but it vanishes with all but the quietest passages of music.

In addition to its very good sound quality, the Voombox Party is IPX44 weather resistant, which means it can handle splashes, sand, dust and just about anything you can throw at it short of actually throwing it in the pool. Buttons are rubberized and molded to the side of the case, and Divoom smartly placed both the microUSB charging port and 3.5mm audio port behind a rubberized flap that keeps moisture and dirt out too. Battery life for the speaker is rated at eight hours, and you can charge it back up three hours or so.

Overall, the Voombox Party is a solid and capable portable Bluetooth speaker, offering very good sound quality, ample volume, and ruggedness in one. List price for the Voombox Party is $149.99(USD), but you can pick one up over on Amazon for just $99.99 in either black or silver.
