Sony’s low-priced NSC-GC1 digital camcorder is designed with that singular purpose in mind. The camera captures MPEG-4 encoded clips at up to 30fps (320×240 resolution) or 15fps (640×480 resolution), perfect for those online video services. Sony even bundles software that makes it really easy to directly upload content to popular video sharing sites.

The camcorder also functions as a 5-megapixel digital camera, complete with flash and 4x digital zoom. Keep in mind that there’s no onboard memory, so you’ll have to pick up a Memory Stick DUO card to store your clips and pics.

I really like Sony’s clean industrial design here, and especially appreciate the large 2.4-inch adjustable screen too.

It’s expected to be available this September for $200. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, you might want to check out the Flip Video camcorder. It’s not as expandable, and doesn’t have the camera features, but for a simple video capture device, it’s worth a look.
