The Acer Revo RL100 Media center was released about 6 months ago in Asia, and we’re finally going to get it in the US. It’s supposed to be a digital media hub and is for those people who don’t want to have a full-on HTPC in their living room. The Revo RL100 looks pretty darn good, and is no slouch performance-wise.

The 1 inch-tall Revo RL100 comes with a 1.3GHz Athlon processor, a 720GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and three USB 2.0 ports. A multi-card reader allows you to read from a plethora of removable media cards. It naturally come with WiFi connectivity and an Ethernet jack if you still operate with wires.

Unlike some of the media centers I’ve seen, this one is quite svelte and minimal. Even if you don’t have much space, the Revo RL100 will be barely noticed. The best feature in my book is the removable keyboard, which doubles as a trackpad, and hides away when it’s not in use.

It’s available now, with the base model (RL100-U1002) selling for $499.99 (USD), but you’ll need to spend $569.99 if you want the version (RL100-UR20P) with the Blu-ray player built in.

I’m all for double screens and double laptops and double tablets, but it seems that Acer kind of missed the mark with their new concept device. They call this thing the Iconia and here’s why I think it will fail.

These double-screened devices like the Iconia and the Kno ignore the familiarity and usability of keyboards as their primary text input device. As much as I like tablets, speech recognition isn’t really practical, and touchscreen typing just plain sucks when it comes to replacing tactile keyboards.

Why is this important? Well, as many people do, I touch-type on a real keyboard, and I touch-type pretty darn fast. Touch-typing or just generally typing fast on these devices isn’t really possible – or if it is, it’s just a parlor trick and not something most people can do. Think about it: you’re typing on a flat, slippery touchscreen. Your fingers can’t locate the keys without using your eyes, and that just slows you down.

Anyway, the Iconia looks pretty, but it won’t work if you have any need to type text for any prolonged period.

The G7750-A64 is powered by an Intel Core i7-960 3.20GHz processor, 6 GB DDR3 RAM (3 slots with 2GB RAM each, max. 12 GB), and two Nvidia GTX260 graphics cards. It will go Usain Bolt on Crysis. It’s also equipped with a 1TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, a DVD Super Multi drive, what seems like a billion-in-one card reader, 6 USB ports, 2 Ethernet ports, 2 ESATA ports, 5(?!) audio out ports, 4 DVI-I ports, 4 3.5″ hard drive bays, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Although the Predator doesn’t come with a monitor, it does come with a sweet G15 keyboard & G9 mouse combo. The G7750-A64 will be available in Japan next month and is priced at ¥289,800 ($3,170 USD). According to an Acer outsider, the Predator was initially priced at $70, but the addition of 5 audio out ports jacked up the production costs.

Acer displayed their first-ever phone, the tentatively named F1 at the ongoing Computex exhibition in Taiwan. You may be familiar with Acer’s obsession with Formula 1 racing, as they have made numerous tie-ins with the BAR-Honda and Ferrari teams. The F1 hopes to live up to its codename with the help of one of the hottest pieces of technology today, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. The Snapdragon fitted on the F1 is rated at 1 Ghz. By comparison, the iPhone 3G’s Samsung ARM processor is rated at “only” 620 MHz.

The F1 is Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-enabled. It also has GPS capabilities, an FM Tuner and a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus.

I wish we had hi-res pictures that would do justice to the F1′s 3.8 inch touchscreen, but we’ll have to be content with these shots for now. I also wish that Google would polish up their translator, because I’m pretty sure that ePrice didn’t mean to say that the F1′s “biggest selling point is a 1 GHz processor, doubling the speed while not really, but to ensure faster. ”

Here we see the buttons in front of the phone. I’m not sure if that’s three or four buttons; the ePrice article probably mentions it but again the answer got lost in translation.

That’s the camera right there, along with the LED flash. The vents on the lower left are speakers, and the tiny dent on the upper left of the F1 is actually its stylus.

You can check out more details regarding the F1 at ePrice (Google Mangled Translated version). For our readers who can read Chinese, click here for the original article.
