This is one awesome Alien themed guitar. If Ripley ever put together a band, this is what the guitarist would play. It was created by Gig Goldstein and this carved guitar matches H.R. Giger’s original design very nicely.

It’s no wonder his name is Gig since he makes a full time gig out of carving. He has been doing it for about twelve years and as you can see, he does amazing work.

As for this guitar, just look at that amazing detail. I can’t carve a turkey, let alone an awesome Alien guitar. He should be helping to build scary sets for Prometheus. I’d love to see that.

You can check out Goldstein’s other guitars at his YouTube channel.

This is a very interesting debate going on right now in the scientific community. A Russian scientist named Leonid Ksanfomaliti has checked out some images shot by a Russian probe sent to Venus in 1982 called Venera 13. The 79-year-old Russian scientist from the Space Research Institute in Moscow thinks that the crescent-shaped thing in the right side of the photo below is proof of life on Venus.

According to the Russian, the object is an organism with the body of a scorpion or a crab, a disc shape and a back flap that changed position from one shot to the next the probe took. Life on Venus is hard for most people to imagine, since the surface of the planet can reach temps of 464°C, and the gravity is nine times that of Earth.

A scientist that works with the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University doesn’t believe the Russian is seeing what he thinks. According to Jonathon Hill, who processes images NASA takes of Mars, what Prof. Ksanfomaliti sees is a piece of mechanical equipment which broke off on landing. He also thinks that the reason it looks like it changed positions is that the images were taken by two different cameras on the craft.

Hill also says that the same object shows up in photos taken by another probe called Venera 14 that landed nearby. Venera 14 and Venera 13 are identical, and likely both dropped the same bit of debris on the ground. What do you think from the blurry images here? I can certainly see something you might think are legs, but the mechanical equipment theory seems much more logical.

This is just wild to me. I mentioned way back in August that SETI had raised the money needed to continue operating. Generally, they search the heavens for proof of an alien life by picking up radio signals. While the organization is looking for proof of alien life, one proposal has arisen suggesting that they should start looking much closer to home than you might think.

Scientists Paul Davies and Robert Wagner of Arizona State University have proposed that a crowd-sourcing system like SETI@home should be used to pour over the photos of the Moon taken by various NASA missions, looking for leftover artifacts from aliens that might have visited in the past. While they admit the likelihood of alien technology on the Moon is low, they figure if some vastly advanced aliens ever made their way here and wanted to watch us, the Moon would have been the perfect base. I suspect that if they could cross the interstellar void, they could pick up their trash and hide their footprints.

They say that the Moon is a good place to start because artificial changes to the landscape from hardware or foot traffic stay for decades or more. NASA has already shown that you can still clearly see where the Apollo astronauts once walked and where they left hardware. What do you think; will they find signs of alien life on the moon? I think not.

I don’t live in a dry climate, so I’ve rarely needed a humidifier, but if I did, I’d like one like this please. The Alianoid Humidifier was designed by Minwoo Lee and was inspired by alien robots from outer space. The small appliance has a unique look to distinguish itself from all of the others that are already available.

Alianoid looks like an alien robot that keeps on venting steam in anger. It’s got stubby little legs, a rotund body and bulbous head. There are some simple controls at the bottom to indicate water levels and the desired steam output.

For now, this is just a concept design, but hopefully someone will make it a reality so that we can all have this little space guy keeping our nasal passages clear someday.

I love the old Alien movies. Even Alien Vs. Predator. This game may not have any Predators in it, but it looks like it still rocks.
And judging by the trailer below, it has everything that you want in a classic Alien story. If you look close you’ll even notice a mech-suit like the one Ripley wore when she battled the Alien Queen.

No one may hear you scream in space, but you can feel free to scream at the top of your lungs when you play this one in your own home. It looks like they took a lot of cues from the Dead Space games and merged them with the Alien movies. The result is a good looking game that seems to have great atmosphere.

You can expect the game to arrive in 2012. Right now it is still in development by Gearbox Software. It will arrive next year on the Wii U, PC, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

This Toy Story Alien USB Webcam stands at around 15 inches in height, which means that it’s larger than the actual aliens that were featured in Toy Story. It’s big enough that it will stand out on your desk (and honestly it might clash with a few things on your workstation.)

The limited-edition Alien USB Webcam has an antenna that lights up, which glows and pulses. The webcam is mounted in its mouth, not its eyes – despite the fact that it has three of them. The trio of glowing eyes will chirp or squeak for added fun. And not that it really matters, but the webcam has a 1.3MP sensor. If you’re buying one of these, you’re not getting it for the image quality though.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

When you disconnect it, the webcam will even make an “ooooh” sound, just like in the movies. There’s also a speaker in the base to allow it to serve as an external speaker, as well as 2 USB ports so you can use it as a mini-hub.

We know that it’s official Disney/Pixar merch from the included Certificate of Authenticity. Since it was limited to only 500 pieces worldwide, it’s pretty hard to come by one. However, there’s a small batch of them up on eBay now, selling for the rather exorbitant price of $299.99 (USD).

The H.R. Giger-inspired wedding cake was created by the guys at Jet City Cakes, and it’s truly awesome. Between the creepy Art Nouveau black icing, and the pair of chestbursters popping out of the cake top, I can’t decide which part I’d like to sink my teeth into first. I’m thinking the black icing would make my teeth all black an nasty, so I think that first, then I’d swallow a chestburster whole to see if it pops out of my stomach after a few hours.

If this dude doesn’t win whatever prize is being given out for the cool stuff shown at the faire, someone was bought off. He’s mum on the build process, but judging by the looks of the giant lamps, I’m not qualified to build one even if I had the instructions.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The lamps are made from recycled glass tubes and festooned with light diffusers, acrylic rings, CCFL lights, LEDs, and halogen bulbs. The massive lamps ate 5’5″ tall and hold ten gallons of water bubbled by a 20-gallon pump. A little plastic cow in the water moves up and down the watery tractor beam. OMG I want one of these so bad!

I loves me some ooey-gooey Alien Chestbursters, and I certainly enjoy the occasional PS3 game. This over-the-top casemod combines both.

Modder GivinTats originally did another Alien casemod a while back, and then had someone reach out to him to make a custom mod featuring a gory Chestburster pushing its way out of the side of a poor old 1st gen PlayStation 3.

Since the original movie Chestburster is said to assimilate some traits of its host, GivinTats decided to make him a bit of an alien cyborg instead of a straight-up organic creature. Check out the blood, guts and parts spraying forth from the side of the PS3. Yummy. The broken circuit board coming out of the cracked open case carcass is an especially nice touch – although it would suck if that were the actual circuitry from the PS3 itself.

Fresh off the boat from Japan, this USB gadget looks just like the grotesque giant-headed, acid-blood-dripping, eponymous alien of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien vs. Predator, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, Alien: Resurrection (and the soon-to-be Alien prequel).

Just plug the nasty thing into your USB port, its grotesque inner mouth randomly pops out of it’s mother mouth, backlit by a glowing red LED. Yummy.

I think I’ll put this right next to Hello Kitty and Domokun.

After what seems like an eternity to me, the wonderful, whimsical Alien Abduction Lamp has finally landed here on planet Earth!

Lasse Klein’s whimsical lamp design first showed its face on Technabob all the way back in June 2007, and it’s taken over 2 years for a final production version of the lamp to find its way to our humble M-Class planet. That sure was a long extraterrestrial journey.

The final version of the lamp features LED that light up the alien cockpit, and a shiny steel retro alien spacecraft hovering atop an illuminated acrylic tractor beam, which itself rests on a fake grass base. With a touch of the antenna, you can flip between an always on or pulse lighting effect behind the windows. And when the lights are off, the aliens glow in the dark. Plus, it comes with a plastic cow – perfect for alien experimentation. Just don’t expect to read by this lamp – it’s really just an accent piece.

While the final version of the lamp isn’t identical to Klein’s original prototype, I still think it’s really cool. The Alien Abduction lamp is available in a an initial limited edition run of just 2000 spacecraft. You can order one here for $100 (USD).

These fun UFO USB flash drives come to us courtesy of crafter OrigamiMe (yeah, I know this isn’t origami). Each one stores 4GB of your otherworldly data, and is hand-carved from basswood and painted with shiny chrome enamel paint to look just like one of those retro 1950s spacecraft.

Sure, it’s not the most practical looking USB drive I’ve ever seen, but it could be the coolest. You can get yours over at OrigamiMe’s Etsy shop for $30 (USD).

Don’t fret if that title doesn’t make any sense. This bacon-scented soap celebrating reddit’s admittedly adorable mascot doesn’t make any sense, either, except that, well, the alien is cute, and bacon is delicious. But with those truisms out of the way, there’s no explaining the bacon reddit soap. There is only awe sprinkled with shock.

The soap, shown here next to lesser, non-bacony soap for size comparison, is also available in a fruitier version for those of you who don’t want to step out of the shower smelling like bacon. For $9, you can get a 10 ounce bar of orange- or bacon-scented glycerin soap, and a fresh (sort of) scent that will stick to you all day.

Bacon soap will either bring people closer or drive them away, and I’m not really sure which one is better.

The titular aliens from the Alien films are, in my opinion, right at the top of the scariness chart, which means I never, ever thought I’d say anything based on their design was at all cute. And yet, I find the little tiny LEGO alien pretty adorable. I think this is what it must feel like when you think the sky is falling.

A stranger lamp would be something shaped like the doodle on the table. What’s out of this world isn’t the design, its the price: $530 (USD) at Generate Design. $530 for a giant sperm cell that lights up? No thanks.

While I’ve been waiting a really long time for the Alien Abduction Lamp to finally get mass-produced, I guess I’ll have to settle for this glowing green orb lamp from Japan for now.

These little spherical lamps sure look like some sort of retro spacecraft to me, especially the glowing green part, and the tripod legs.

Created by Japan’s IDEA Label, each light stands about 3 feet tall, and has a bright LED that gets its juice from solar energy. As an added bonus, they’re waterproof, so you can actually line up a bunch of these in your front yard and they’ll be convinced the aliens have landed when the sun goes down. In addition to the bright green one, they’re also available in pink, orange and clear – but seriously, what’s the last time you saw a pink alien spaceship? What sort of fools do they take us for?

As is the case with many of the offbeat products from Japan, they’re not currently available elsewhere. For now, I guess you’ll have to admire them from afar over on the IDEA shop for ¥1575 (appx. $17 USD) each.

Alien will always have a special place in our hearts. A place I’d rather not have but is there anyway, a place where the most horrible ideas for creatures are made real, creatures like the facehugger, the chestburster, and the slimy evil main Alien. But I refuse to live a life of fear of non-existent creatures! I shall cast out these pants-wetting mental images of the Alien by looking at its 400% Kubrick version!

It worked! I’m not afraid of 11″ of cute plastic! This alien has a wrench for a second mouth! Haha! You too can be free from alienophobia! Just order the Giant Alien 400% Kubrick toy from ThinkGeek for $60 USD. If you’re still afraid of it, at least you won’t need a space shuttle’s engine to defeat it.
