You can put the goomba in the shoe and let Mario beat him down… leave the goomba out of the shoe and let Mario beat him down… really, your options for goomba-beatings are nearly endless.

I’d like to see more little sets like this! You could throw in all sorts of enemies from the Mushroom Kingdom and just let Mario and friends throw down in friendly crocheted cage-match fashion.

With these amigurumi projects, the faces are usually stylized, or at least crocheted like the rest, but perhaps with beads attached. Not so here; the Prince’s unique little features have been rendered in fabric and sewn on, for that extra touch. In the burgeoning crochet “market,” a crafter’s gotta do something to stand out. The katamari itself is just another bonus!

Looks like this little guy is sold out of Michelle Rheaume’s Etsy store (and can you blame whomever bought him?), but there’s a (non-costumed) Luigi available, and patterns for all sorts of Nintendo characters–including a Boo that is so cute I’m not sure he’s actually meant for human eyes.

So it’s good to see those iconic retro gaming mammals getting their due in amigurumi form. Handcrafted by June Gilbank, these little lemmings look just like their videogame counterparts, complete with fuzzy green hair, bulbous blue bodies, and tiny tools that get them out of (and occasionally into) trouble. June has lovingly recreated five of the games’ nine character types, including Walker, Floater, Blocker, Builder and Miner. Sorry, fans of Digger, Climber, Basher and Bomber will have to look elsewhere.

Just look at those little yarn tentacle-grippy-crawly things pouring out of his mouth. Okay, actually, he’s still pretty creepy, but now in an adorable and harmless way. As long as he remains still, that is. And isn’t in the room when I have the lights off. But enough about my future nightmares: how’s he look next to the original?

The attention to detail in this little figure is just incredible, and even more so when you think about the time that must have gone into it. Sadly, as is the case with so many amazing things that turn up on these wide Internets, no one knows just who’s responsible.

All sorts of critters and characters are represented in the series, from Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger and Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head (above) to classics like the shark from Jaws, the creepy twins from The Shining, and a chupacabra. They’re so adorable you just want to schoop them up and hug them! Except they might stab, bite, claw, or otherwise maim you. Ogle with caution, and keep a light on.

See? That amigurumi Smoker is as cute as a sweet little kitten! And he can’t grab you from across the street, either, and that makes these little crocheted figures a win. Craftster member windgie79 made these for her zombie-addicted husband for the holidays. What a lovely gift! Even the one that’s puking.

Crafter Artoo1121 of Geek Central Station has really gone the extra mile with this amazingly detailed little Link. As a matter of fact, he’s so cute, I think I’m gonna puke.

Link is outfitted with a Master Sword, Ocarina, an accurate Hylian shield and a teeny, tiny little bottle of Lon Lon milk, complete with a little cow on its label.

Crafter Sammi Resendes of Geek Central Station sure thinks that the classic sci-fi epic can be just as sweet as a roomful of cuddly kittens rolled in confectioners sugar. These handmade Amigurumi residents of the Star Wars universe are so cute they make me want to puke (it’s almost like that time a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain).

The collection of pint-sized crocheted figures include Admiral Ackbar, Leia, Chewbacca, Han Solo and Yoda, all created in stuffed form. They’re accompanied by tiny little weapons and other accessories made out of Sculpey clay.

Up next in her Star Wars series, she plans on making cute and cuddly versions of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and R2D2. You can check out more pictures over on Flickr.
