How’d you like to be the very first person in America to own this brand new electric car?

The ZERO from Italy’s Tazzari Electric is getting set to hit U.S. shores by early 2010, and now there’s a chance for you to be the tooling around in this cute subcompact car before anyone else gets one.

The eco-friendly ZERO runs on lithium batteries, and is made from 100% recyclable aluminum. The ZERO is designed to handle like a sports car – assuming your definition of sports car tops out at 55 mph. At least it can accelerate from 0 to 30 in under 5 seconds. The real wheel drive ZERO features a wide wheelbase, a centrally-located engine, 15-inch wheels, and a low center of gravity in order to keep things feeling sporty.

Driving range is 140km (appx. 87 miles) per charge, and an innovative superfast charging system lets you recharge the car’s batteries to 80% capacity in just 50 minutes – although a full charge takes 9 hours, so an overnight juice-up is best.

Opening bid for the first ZERO is a cool $25,000, and you’ll need to pre-qualify to bid. In addition to the vinyl-skinned green ZERO pictured above, the winner will be flown to New York city to receive their car along with some other special perks. The auction ends on Wednesday, June 3rd, so if you want to bet the first, you’ll need to get over to eBay and get your bids in soon.

Do we really need any more distractions we need while we drive down the road? This over-the-top replacement sun visor for your vehicle manages to cram in just about everything but the kitchen sink.

Not only can the visor play DVDs, audio and video files, it can play retro video games on its 7-inch LCD 16×9 widescreen display. Just hook up one or two (included) gamepads and you can play a number of emulated 8-bit games (many of which come on an included disc).

The jack-of-all-trades plays DVD, SVCD, VCD, DVCD, CD, CDG, CD-R and CD-RW discs, as well as digital media files stored in MP4, MP3, WMA or JPEG formats. It can even send game or movie audio to your car’s stereo thanks to a built-in FM transmitter.

Thankfully, it looks like this is only available as a passenger (right hand) visor, so you shouldn’t be able to play while you drive (unless you happen to live in England or another right-hand drive part of the world, of course). If you’re ready to turn your car into an accident waiting to happen, you can pick up the system from Chinavasion for just over $100.

[BTW: I don't remember James Bond shooting hoops in Tomorrow Never Dies either].

If you thought the technology in the 2002 flick, Minority Report was impressive, you can now own one of the very cool futuristic cars that Tom Cruise drove in that film.

One of the three custom-built Lexus 2054 concept cars made for the Cameron Crowe film will be put up for auction next month. The car currently has only 38 miles on the odometer, and is expected to fetch around $125,000 at auction, so get out your checkbooks if you want to own a part of future history.

Now, if you don’t have $125k lying around, there is a guy who is currently selling the black one of these cars on eBay for the low, low price of $79k. Since the black one was only used in the background of the movie, it doesn’t have the sexy modern interior of the red one pictured above

The new Alpine iDA-X001 car stereo features some really deep integration with Apple iPod portable music players. First off, it offers complete album and track information, including album art which all shows on a bright 2.2-inch (320×240) color TFT display. Second, it offers full playback control, letting you browse playlists and navigate tracks.

The $450 stereo also can play back tracks from other USB-based music players (although I doubt they’ll be as integrated as the iPod.) Several optional modules can provide HD, XM or Sirius satellite radio capabilities, as well as Bluetooth connectivity if you want to play tracks from your cell phone or PDA. This one is definitely worth a look if you’re looking for a better way to play your iPod in your car.

A California auto accessories maker hopes to bring back that awful fad in a new, even more irritating way. Let me introduce you to Horntones, a device that lets you play MP3 or WAV files of your choice through your car horn.

Yes, you heard me right. Pretty soon, you’ll be driving along and instead of a nice little beep or honk, you’ll be subjected to the favorite song of the driver behind you. If the car behind you blasting “Fergilicious” at you isn’t enough to inspire a serious case of road rage, I don’t know what is.

For those of you with no human decency, you can pick up one of these for about $150 when they debut later this year. And no, I’m not gonna make it easy for you to purchase one by providing a link to the manufacturer’s website.
