While it’s definitely not the most stylish of looks, the Grappa shopping bag can definitely offer additional protection for your head in a pinch. Normally, it works like a regular shopping bag, but in an emergency, you place it over your head, and it ads a layer of durable foam material to protect your noggin. Its makers claim the foam is the same sort of material found in ordinary hard hats. The bags are reasonably priced too, with prices ranging from 980 to 1280 yen (~$12 to $16 USD.)

At least they were nice enough to include a mesh side so you can see out of it. Sure, you might look completely ridiculous if you wear one, but the guy pointing and laughing next to you probably got his brain bashed in by falling debris – and you’ll still be alive to point and laugh at him.

The sides on the bag can attached, to make a more box-like shape for your toiletries. Instead, if you want to use it as a gadget folio, just undo the sides, and it has enough space for your iPad or 11-inch MacBook Air. You might be able to fit a few more items in there along with it. Just don’t try and actually put your laptop and your hair gel in there at the same time – I can’t imagine that’d be a good idea.

The folio looks pretty handsome and comes in four different varieties. The canvas versions will cost you $149 while the leather ones will set you back $189.

Lexon designer Fellina Sok-Cham came up with the idea for this nifty Bag Light. It just hangs from the strap of your bag, clipped into place securely with a magnetic carabiner, and providing handy illumination inside your bag with the push of a button. It’s made of soft silicone rubber, so it won’t scratch up the contents of your bag, and offers bright, diffuse LED illumination.

The Bag Light is available over at the MoMA Store for just $9 (USD).

Not because I’m lazy or anything. Actually, I’m pretty OC about it, because I have to write down a ton of lists (which I double and triple-check) before packing to make sure that I don’t forget anything. It’s the actual packing (or “stuffing everything into the suitcase”) part that I hate. I usually have to have someone else with me just to sit on the suitcase while I zip it close.

Well, not anymore, I hope – if the Pumpack eventually makes it way into production. Pumpack is a suitcase with an integrated pump that can vacuum pack your clothes so you can fit more of your stuff into it. We’ve already got suitcases with expandable hoods; and we’ve already got vacuum bags, so now it’s time to get suitcases with expandable hoods and vacuum pumps.

And if you’re the type who goes crazy over creases, then simply bring a travel iron with you. I’m sure it’ll fit easily with all the extra space you’ve got after vacuum packing everything. Still, it won’t do anything about the weight of your suitcase, and the ridiculous fees airlines are charging for bags these days.

Or, maybe it’s just got your wallet, lipstick and car keys inside. Regardless, it’s pretty darned awesome. This handmade wool felt bag is a dead ringer for the Doctor’s actual TARDIS, down to the police box signage and the light on top. It was made by Moscow’s Krukru Studio, and is the best gift you could possibly buy for a female Doctor Who fan. Heck, I’m a guy, and I might consider carrying around a man purse just so I can have the TARDIS with me at all times.

The TARDIS bag measures just 13.8″ (H) x 7″ (W), but like all TARDIS, it’s bound to be way bigger on the inside than out, so hopefully it’ll hold all your stuff.

Clearly, a lot of labor goes into the construction of each one of these bags, so that’s why it costs $180 (USD), but if you’re a serious Doctor Who fan, and you appreciate handcrafted wares, I think it’s worth it. Transport yourself over to Etsy now if you want one.

It is made from waterproof fabrics and has a military spec construction. This coupled with a lifetime warranty should make it almost bomb-proof. Okay, it’s not bomb-proof, but it should keep your laptop safe from most of the elements. There are multiple compartments, urethane coated zippers, and an internal frame sheet to give the back a bit of stability. The large zippered pocket will fit most 17″ laptops, and the smaller pockets hold your other gadgets and gear.

The Baggy Winecoat, as this bag is called, isn’t just for wine. Fill her up with beer, soda, juice, ginger ale, and any other drink you want to take with you on the go. It’s fashioned from polyester or leatherette, and comes in five colors for you to choose from: black, red, white, lilac, and black leatherette.

The Baggy Winecoat was actually designed by Jakob Wagner and can hold up to 3 liters of your poison of choice. The bottom is made from solid rubber construction, and it has a built-in spigot so you can dispense your drinks anytime and anywhere you want to. The thing is, you most likely won’t be carrying around some musical instrument while you go about your business everyday–unless it’s right on your bag like on the Electronic Rock Guitar Bag, that is.

Most bags that are for the musically-inclined feature designs of musical instruments like guitars and pianos and drums printed on the bag. But on this bag, you can actually play the guitar.

That little box you see in the lower right corner is actually a mini-amplifier, and that’s where the sound will play through. So how do you actually play this thing? Just place your fingers on the desired frets on the shortened neck on the bag and move your thumb across the strings at the bottom of the bag.

The bag is large enough to accommodate a 17-inch laptop, and comes with six small pockets and two larger ones to carry all your other stuff. The Electric Guitar bag is on backorder right now at ThinkGeek, and is priced at $49.99 (USD).

The tech in the bag is based on a Lilypad Arduino system. By placing RFID tags on up to five items, the bag will be able to detect whether these items are put in or taken out of the bag. A simple LED notification system tells you which items are already inside the bag – provided you haven’t forgotten which LED stands for which item of course.

As you can see in the top picture, although the LEDs stand out overall the tech is still integrated tastefully into the bag. Here’s a demo of the Déjà Vu:

Very practical and easy to understand. If you want to have your own Déjà Vu bag, you can get the code and instructions from the MIT New Textiles page. I wonder if it’s possible to make a bag with a built-in bar code reader and a small LCD display. That way you won’t have to memorize which LED stands for which object, you won’t have to use RFID tags and you’ll be able to mark more items.

The 100 solar panels wired to the exterior of the handbag generate about 2 watts of power; not enough to charge tablets or smartphones, but Diffus is optimistic that they’ll be able to double or triple that in the near future as solar technology improves. One other neat touch that the handbag has is that it has fiber optic cables inside that light up when the bag is opened, providing illumination.

The handbag is expected to go on sale soon, although I don’t know for how much. It’s probably going to be expensive, but that’s always the case with groundbreaking products. The important thing is for designs like this to flourish to help make green products an everyday presence, not just limited to concepts or used in special conditions.

These things are basically a baggie that is large enough for your iPad and fits snugly. You can still operate the controls and touchscreen through the bag. The idea is that the plastic won’t let spills through to damage your tablet. The name suggests kitchen use, but these would be just as at home protecting your iPad at the pool, beach or lake.

They will work anywhere spills are an issue. They will do nothing to protect from drops though. A pack of 25 sleeves is $19.99 (USD) and a pack of 50 will cost you $34.99. I say just use a zip lock baggie; it will do the same thing.

The bags themselves come in two flavors, 13-inch and 15-inch, which means that they probably won’t fit my oversize laptop, but will fit most laptops out there. There is a removable smart strap (which can easily be removed) and the bags are designed with a double clamshell design.

The Truco is modular and sized to be a carry-on. The bag has three sections with the main section on wheels and two smaller sections that come off the top and front of the main base.

One of the sections is a laptop bag and the other is a bag for other stuff and valuables that can both be removed and stowed separately if needed. When all three parts are attached together, you get a single carry-on that is a standard 20-inches. The bag is available for $199 (USD). It’s certainly not cheap, but it is cool and will protect your gear.

The thing is called the Desktop PC notebook bag and it’s not actually a bag to put a desktop computer in. It’s a small black brief case designed to hold your notebook. The bag actually turns into a desk with metal legs so you can work comfortably using your laptop.

It’s cool when set up, even if it looks like a bar stool with a bag for a seat.  and it even has an integrated cooling fan for hot notebooks. Other features include a mouse in the front pocket and more. It sells for ¥5,980 (appx. $74 USD) here (JP).

While they’re not official Space Invaders on side of this messenger bag, I think most people will get the point. You know, looking at this, the opening of Super Mario Bros., it occurs to me that I couldn’t possibly guess how many times I have played through this moment of the game. I think the motions are probably so ingrained in my fingers that I could do it with my eyes closed. But is that a testament to the game, or to the NES’s amazing gamepad?

Of course the device is useless against cameras with no flash, but it’s a start. It’s about time someone stood up for those poor Celebrities. Harvey wants to make miniature versions of his invention, but at the same time now that his baby is itself getting some attention, he’s working on obtaining a patent for it. If Harvey’s invention catches on, we might eventually see him cavorting with the stars – like Dame Jane Goodall and her chimpanzee friends – and bravely fighting for their right to party privacy.
