Looking for a tasty treat, retro game fans? How about a Space Invader cake. Well, you can’t have one, but you can have this pixelated alien cake who looks sort of like the long-lost cousin of a Space Invader, and I bet it’ll taste just as good as a real Invader.

Spinning Hat’s Retro Arcade Cake Mold (or Mould for you Brits) is the perfect way to serve up your baked goods. With just the tiniest bit of baking skillz, you could even make a layered alien like the one shown above.

I want to make a ten-layer alien cake now, and fill it with bright green icing that can ooze out of its eyes and mouth. Yum. Oozy alien eyeball cake. Perhaps even better than the silicone cake mold is the packaging. “Bake Me to Your Leader!” Who comes up with this stuff?

Grab one (or ten) yourself over at Spinning Hat for £9.99 (appx. $16 USD). I wonder if you can take this thing out of the oven using a Pac-Man oven mitt?

Not only do these cool cake molds let you make cakes that look like the segments on a retro LED or LCD digit, but they let you do away with that pesky “waiting for your cake to bake” requirement.

SUCK UK is offering up these doubly-ingenious cake molds, which can be popped into the microwave to crank out mini cakes in just seconds. The segment cakes are great for making age-specific birthday cakes, as well as perfect cakes for the next time you throw a 24 TV theme night. Yes, I have it on good authority that Jack Bauer personally endorses these cakes.

They ship in a clever box that looks like a mini microwave, and they come 7 to a box so you can make any single digit with a box. Or a birthday cake (and a half to spare) for your 111 year old grandma. You can grab a set over at the SUCK UK website for £10 (appx. $16 USD).

Now somebody go bake me a cake, I’m starving.

Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you roll a Katamari down the street with her and roll up the universe into a giant ball?

While I like to think this Katamari wedding cake is filled with tiny buildings, cruise ships, cows and wildly gesticulating little people, it’s actually just lemon cake with strawberry filling. Oh well, it still sounds delicious to me. Besides, those airplanes have a tendency to get stuck in my teeth anyhow.

This amazing Katamari Damacy wedding cake was created by the appropriately named Mike’s Amazing Cakes of Redmond, Washington for the recent wedding of Flickr contributor offwithyourtv.

I wonder what happens if you try and cut into the chewy center of a Katamari? Does the universe explode? Or is it like a piñata, and do all of the items trapped inside come pouring out all of the place?

And if it wasn’t obvious enough that these guys are serious videogame fanatics, they finished off their wedding ceremony with a round of Guitar Hero.

Pixel baker extraordinaire Hello Naomi is at it again with her video game baked goods. This time, they’re adorned with the 8-bit aliens who ate so many of our quarters way back when. I suppose it’s our turn to get back at them by biting their heads off. Mmmm, alien frosting.

Naomi has also been responsible for cranking out such wonderful video game delicacies as these Pac-Man, Super Mario and LEGO cupcakes.

Flickr contributor M.A.L. had this Mario Kart-inspired custom cake made for his recent wedding. This intricate Nintendo cake was crafted by the cake artisans of Costa Mesa, California’s Let Them Eat Cake. Amazingly, everything in these photos is 100% eat-able.

Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi and numerous characters from the Mario Kart series make an appearance on this impeccable work of edible art.

You won’t find any 1up Mushrooms inside this cake, but the so-called “Chocolate Decadence” cake is loaded with yummy chocolate buttercream, ganache, mousse. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

If you’re like me, you probably killed more than a few weekends back in the Fall playing Portal. As you probably know by now, the cake promised as the reward for completing all the puzzles was a big fat lie. That didn’t stop this talented baker from whipping up an edible Weighted Companion Cube, effectively combining two of the game’s most popular concepts into one delicious treat.

Baked by Flickr contributor Mandrake88, this cake is most definitely does exist. And when she was done cooking up the companion cake, Mandrake had some extra dough lying around and baked up a batch of yummy companion cookies.

Be warned, when you click through to Mandrake’s Flickr gallery, there’s a ridiculous NSFW “erotic” cake pictured on the same page as the cube cake. That said, I’m sure you’ll all be hastily clicking on that link.

Now all I can think of is Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Not to be outdone by the edible Atari 2600 joystick, the pastry artisans from Los Angeles’ Cakes by the Pound went all out when they created this delectable Atari-inspired masterpiece.

An awesome work of baked goodness, everything you see in the picture is edible other than the board that the cake sits on. I can’t get over the details on this cake. From the perfectly black and red joysticks, to the woodgrain icing on the console and the tiny Atari logo, it’s just mind-boggling.

From the looks of it, pastry chef Mendy Pound can bake cakes in just about any design you can imagine, so if you want a tasty PS3, Wii, N64, Sega Genesis, or even a Fairchild Channel F, I’m pretty sure her bakery can handle your request.

I’m guessing that the only game this 2600 could actually play would be Cakewalk.

Created by master pastry chef Mark Randazzo of Brooklyn’s Mark Joseph Cakes, this edible Artoo came complete with a domed lid and plenty of delicious blue and silver icing to satisfy any sweet tooth.

While I don’t see a matching golden C3P0 cake on Mark’s site, I bet he’d be willing to bake one for your special occasion. On the other hand, a furry Chewbacca cake might be a bit more of a tall order.

While I normally wouldn’t eat a cake with black icing on it, this one looks too good to pass up. Flickr contributor Fredrick Johnson says the fabulous retro Atari joystick cake was made by his pastry chef friend, Lisa. After you chow down on this sugary delight, you might need to play a round or two of VCS (not so) classic Tooth Protectors to prevent cavities.

Lisa, wherever you are, won’t you please bake a matching 2600 console cake and a couple of paddle cupcakes?

They’re brand new, so they may be hard to find for a while. Expect them to start popping up from retailers over the next few months.
