I’m reasonably certain this will not be one of the new musical instruments that ships with Rock Band 3….

Getting plenty of fruit each day is an important part of a well-balanced diet. So why shouldn’t your iPod take part in the same healthy lifestyle as you? Thanks to these fruit speakers, your media player can at least look like it’s eating well.

Available in green apple, yellow banana, orange orange, and red strawberry flavors, these plush fruit speakers don’t just play your tunes, they give you a nice place to take a nap while you listen. Not only do they look delicious, they actually smell like their fruity doppelgangers. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know how well I’d sleep while inhaling artificial bananas.

I’ve had a bit of hard time finding these for sale, but you might have some luck poking around over on eBay. There’s also an importer called Made in China who sells them, but only in wholesale quantities — so unless you plan on stocking an entire fruit stand, that could be overkill.

A French-Canadian artist is working on a plan to launch a gigantic banana-shaped blimp into orbit above the state of Texas.

The project proposes a 300-meter, helium filled banana floated skywards, to hover over the Lone Star state. Artist Cesar Saez claims to have raised tens of thousands of dollars towards his goal of $1 million that will be needed to launch his work, entitled Geostationary Banana Over Texas.

Why, you may ask, would you spend taxpayer dollars to launch a giant fruit into space? According to the artist, “Texas is as symbolic as the banana… The banana has a lot of symbolism: phallic, humour, and political, too.” If that’s his only criteria, why not launch a giant penis into space?
