Last time we checked in with YouTuber bd594, his robotic band was playing House of the Rising Sun, and before that some Marilyn Manson. But despite their melodic charms, I always thought his band of electronic misfits was missing something… vocals. So for the latest digital track, bd594 added something special – a DECtalk Express voice synthesizer.

So the Linux-powered EOL band now has a robot snare, bass drum, tambourine, keyboard, and HP scanner AND vocals. Here they are, performing an awesomely geeky rendition of Maroon 5′s Moves Like Jagger:

If you thought that sounded a bit like Stephen Hawking on lead vocals, that’s because he used to use a DECtalk Express back in the 1980s as his voice.

Bands that turn a new iPod nano 6G into a watch are getting to be very common. It seems like every time I turn around a new one is on the market. A guy is looking to bring a couple more to market over on KickStarter and his are so much cooler than any of the other bands I have seen.

The project is by a dude named Scott Wilson and they are epic. The bands are called the TikTok and Lunatik multi-touch Watch Kits. The bands are made from premium materials with the Tiktok using a snap in design where you just sit the iPod nano into the face of the band. It looks like a digital watch more than any other nano case like this I have seen. All the controls and ports are left uncovered.

The LunaTik is more complex and is a conversion kit that encloses the nano inside the band where it’s not easily removed. It is mostly for the user that wants to make their nano into a watch permanently. It’s made from machined aluminum with straps made from silicon rubber. It will be offered in red and the plain silver designs. It seems that Scott has raised enough money for the project to move on so we should see this hit the market in the near future.

My daughter had this fetish for slap bracelets for a while. You could be just walking down the hall and she would run up and slap a bracelet around your wrist hard enough to leave a red welt. Those slap bracelets disappeared mysteriously later. Griffin has unveiled a new watchband of the latest iPod nano that uses that same slap bracelet tech.

The $24.99 Griffin Slap is yet another case for the nano 6G that runs the thing into an extra geeky watch. The controls of the nano are covered for the most part when the case is on. You can access the headphone port and the touchscreen functions.

The edges of the case around the nano’s face are raised to offer protection to the screen. There are little nubs on the outside of the case showing you where to press for volume controls and such. You can get one “soon” according to Griffin.

I never really was that interested in an iPod Nano, but this little watch band might make me change my mind. It basically makes your iPod Nano look like a bona fide watch. Plus, it also looks pretty good.

The watch band is made by Hex and you can currently pre-order it for $24.95 (USD). Plus, if you pre-order now, you’ll get an extra 10% off – not too shabby. It comes in 9 different colors, and it’s probably the best looking watch band for the iPod nano.

There’s only one problem that I can see: the earphone cable has to go through your sleeve so that it’s nicely hidden away. That doesn’t make much sense and will grow old pretty quickly, since I don’t see people do this while they are listening to their iPod Nano. However, if you’re not listening to music on it, that won’t be a problem.

Geeky is as geek does I always say. If you really want to show off your new iPod nano and prove to the world that you are geek, what you need to do is turn your new nano into a massive square wrist watch. Having your nano on your wrist would also be a decent way to listen to your tunes while you exercise as well.

A company called CountryComm has some watchbands that are 22mm thick that can fit right through the pocket clip on the nano turning the thing into a large and sufficiently geeky watch. The bands come in a variety of colors and widths, but 22mm is the magic number for the nano.

A 22mm band like the red one in the pics here will set you back $17 (USD). The company also has a lighter case that will hold the nano if you want the thing on your belt. I will say that the idea is cool for a nano watch, but coming from a person that hasn’t worn a watch I years, the nano looks huge on the wrist.

[Thanks for the tip, Michael!]

For those of you who think all music should be played on guitars and drums, games like Rock Band keep you jamming all night long. But for those who prefer to blow into their musical instruments, look no further than this new game for the Nintendo DS.

Fresh from Japan, Mokushise! Zenko Kutaikai!! Let’s Brass!! takes the musical gaming concept and applies it to a whole new genre. Milestone’s new music simulator game for the DS lets players play instruments like the trumpet, tuba, saxophone and piccolo simply by breathing into the DS’ microphone. By combining your breath with stylus movements on the touch screen, you can make beautiful music.

In addition to its instrument simulator modes, Let’s Brass includes a fully functional digital metronome, and a handy electronic tuning fork as well.

The game comes loaded with about 150 songs, and even lets you play wirelessly with up to three other musicians so you can form an electronic quartet (assuming you’d want an all-wind instrument band).

If you’re curious to find out if the game blows or sucks, it’s now available from game importer Play-Asia for $39.90.

Already sick of playing the piano on your iPhone? Maybe it’s time to hit the drums.

Developer MooTheCow has created this homebrew drum machine application called “Drummer” that runs on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Drummer can play up to 15 unique audio samples (one on each finger touch pad), and takes advantage of multi-touch capabilities, so you can play up to five sounds at once. You can even let your MP3s play in the background and provide your own accompaniment. There are pre-installed Rock, Dance, Electro and two Jazz sound sets, but can be easily updated with your own sound samples.

When I came across this Guitar Hero controller made out of LEGO blocks, I was impressed. But once I found out it was fully-functional, I was blown away.

Built by LEGO fanatic David McNeely (aka Blue Star LEGOs), this is the third in his series of working Guitar Hero controllers.

Modeled after a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz four-string Bass guitar, the controller uses the electronic guts of a standard GH guitar, placed delicately inside of a LEGO body.

Every part of the controller works just like the original, including the fret buttons, strum bar, whammy bar and control buttons.

Now all David needs to do is build a complete Rock Band LEGO edition. You can check out more photos of David’s impressive creations over in this Flickr collection.

Electronic Arts has started to circulate a list of 30 tracks that are currently on the playlist for their upcoming multiplayer music game Rock Band. The list includes a number of classic rock tracks, but also offers up some great alternative and more edgy tunes. There are likely to be a few more tracks announced closer to the game’s release.

-Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Maps” (Original)

I’m totally stoked that EA didn’t decide to load the game up with a bunch of crappy metal acts. Most of the songs are from the original master recordings, while just a handful are remade cover versions. Personally, I’m most excited by the presence of tunes from the likes of Radiohead, The Strokes, The Hives, The Pixies and Foo Fighters. Although I could do without the cover version of a Rush song that I already can’t stand.

Rock Band is expected to hit stores on November 20th for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A PS2 version is also planned for release in the Spring of 2008.

The robotic musical group, known as Bandroid, has a lead guitar player, keyboardist and drummer, which can each wildly gesticulate to the beat. Since they’re all interconnected, all three mini-bots move in unison. Their heads, torsos, arms and feet can all get their groove on. If for some strange reason you can’t come up with your own tunes, Bandroid knows nine of its own digital song loops (I can only imagine how wonderful those tracks are.)

The Bandroid Robotic Trio will be available from Hammacher Schlemmer starting in mid-September for $99.95.
