If you were sitting on your couch, drinking tea with your pinky sticking out as you waited for your butler to bring you your sugar cubes reading about that giant 103-inch BeoVision 4 TV from Bang & Olufsen back in 2009 and wondered what sort of ostentatious prick would buy such a massive and overpriced set, B&O has something slightly less snooty for you. The new set is a mere 85-inches across and is the BeoVision 4 85-inch Plasma.

The 85-incher is notable in that it’s the only B&O set to support 3D content, and it uses active glasses. It also supports full HD content for 2D as well, and looks nice enough sitting there in its aluminum frame. The TV uses the Beo6 remote control and has a BeoLab 10 center loudspeaker underneath to match your high-end B&O surround sound system.

B&O are mum on the hard tech specs, but they’d better be really good at the price this set is likely to cost. It will be slightly cheaper than the $130,000 the 103-inch plasma sold for I would imagine. Naturally there is no price listed, because if you have to ask…

Bang & Olufsen Beo6 Remote is One Expensive, Weird Looking Remote

Yes, it’s true, Bang & Olufsen gear is quite expensive. This includes this new Beo6 remote, which is one really strange looking remote control. It’s basically a ball that has a touchscreen LCD sitting on top of it. Seems odd, but I guess that B&O have made stranger looking gear over the years.

The remote will connect to all other B&O gear in your house via WiFi, which is cool. You can create one-button macro commands to control various entertainment devices around your home. While this is a neat idea, it’s not something new, and can even be found on some cheap universal remotes these days. I guess the rich need to spend their money on something, though.

I usually like the minimal design of B&O, but this thing is a bit distracting. In an age where everyone will soon be using their iPhones to control their HDTVs and homes, these types of super-remotes make less and less sense anyway.

Luxury electronics manufacturer Bang & Olufsen are entering the iPod/iPhone accessory market with the BeoSound 8, which is set to take the world by storm. Well, honestly, it’s just another iPod dock. At least this one looks cool.

After checking what £895 came to in US Dollars (appx. $1450), it’s probably more of a MacBook Pro 15 than a MacBook Air. Actually, in the US, it will sell for $999, so we’re back with the MacBook Air instead. For that price, you get two 70W speakers, powered by two amps each. The dock will work with iPhones, iPods and even the iPad (which looks kind of ridiculous sitting on top of the thing.)

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

It also has a USB port as well as auxiliary ports to connect to your computer or play music from other music players, but is really optimized for Apple devices, especially when used with the upcoming BeoPlayer App.

The BeoSound 8 will be available by the end of November, and will come in black or white with aluminum details, and a choice of several colorful speaker grille covers.

I came across these dramatic little speakers from Bang & Olufsen and they really caught my eye. Not only do they look like no other speakers I’ve ever seen, they’re supposed to sound pretty amazing too.

The BeoLab 3 series of speakers is small enough to use with a computer or media player, but also produce big enough sound to fill a room. They’re capable of handling up to 250 watts of power, and feature a B&O’s unique “acoustic lens technology,” which is said to produce a 180-degree sound field that creates an optimal listening experience no matter where you are in the room.

The compact speakers measure in at 6.4″ x 5.2″ x 8.8″, are crafted from solid aluminum housings and come with a rubber base for tabletop use. They come in black, dark gray, red or blue finishes, and mounting options ranging from simply putting them on a desktop or bookshelf, to floor-mounted metal stands in a couple of different heights. If you’re looking for a little extra punch, Bang & Olufsen also offers a matched subwoofer, called the BeoLab 2.

As is always the case with Bang & Olufsen goods, working-class folks need not apply. BeoLab 3 speakers retail for about $3200 a pair, while the BeoLab 2 subwoofer will set you back about $2850. But they sure look good.
