I’m not really a comic geek so pardon me if this has been addressed in canon, but I’ve always wondered why only the Gotham PD had a bat signal. Wouldn’t ordinary citizens have a higher chance of actually needing the Batman to protect them from the horrors of Gotham City? If I lived in Gotham I sure as hell would order this Bat Signal Keychain.

The die-cast keychain measures about 3″ x 1.25″ and is modeled after the Batarangs that the Christian Bale Batman uses. The keychain button activates the bat signal, although kids, I hate to be the one to break it to you – you’ll have a higher chance of using the keychain as a boomerang than actually summoning the Dark Knight. That’s because he doesn’t – AAAAAaackkkkkk I’m sorry AAA YES YES YES I SWEAR TO YOU.

You can order the Batman Bat Signal Keychain from Thinkgeek for $25 (USD). Results not guaranteed.

Picture this – you’re being held hostage by an evil, bad-makeup-wearin’ supervillian, but you’re 25 miles away from Gotham City. Normally, you’d be screwed, right? But just then, you reach into your backpack and whip out your own portable Bat Signal, hailing the Dark Knight from across town. He swoops in, beats the living crap out of your captor and frees you to live another day.

That’s pretty much what DIY-er Oceaneer99 was going for when he put together his very own handheld Bat Signal, using everyday components to build it. At the core of the portable Bat Signal is a 45-lumen LED flashlight, a custom-cut acrylic bat logo, and ABS pipe and other plumbing parts.

While Oceaneer99 hasn’t provided a guide to build your own Bat Signal, you can pretty much figure it out from looking at the parts he used. Personally, I’d build mine with something bright enough to be seen a little further away – maybe a 700mW green laser.

The miniature replica Bat-Signal features a sturdy metal construction and stands about 12-inches tall. It’s got a built-in cooling fan and can be swiveled and tilted to give you the best shot at making contact with the Dark Knight. Of course, since the light can only project the Bat symbol about 16-feet, don’t expect him to show, unless he happens to live in your bedroom closet. On the other hand, the Bat-Signal might do a pretty good job attracting Mothmonsterman.

The Bat-Signal is available in a limited edition of just 500 pieces and can be found over at Entertainment Earth for a special sale price of $258.39 (USD) – it normally sells for $299.99. A real Bat-Bargain!
