It looks like an extra-thick folding bed, with two huge differences: it has two small foldable areas instead of the usual one that folding beds have, and it’s also got a round slot in the middle where the table is supposed to go in.

Fold the two ends up, and the whole thing transforms into something that resembles a booth at a restaurant. Fold them back down, and you’ve got a bed.

It’s fun to see furniture designs like these that give you a whole lot of options, even if the space that you’ve got is limited.

Apparently, I don’t have to wonder too much anymore because someone out there just made a giant-sized nest bed that’s lined with all sorts of comfortable and cushy materials. This obviously doesn’t feel like a real bird’s nest would, but I’d pick this version any day.

These giant bird’s nest beds were made by the O*GE Creative Group as a prototype for a new and inspiring socializing space. I think they succeeded in doing just that with this project. You might take a nap instead of socializing from the way these look, though.

So for each and every person addicted to Facebook and stalking viewing the profiles of other people, there’s the Fbed. Or at least the concept of it.

The Fbed was thought up by Croatian designer Tomislav Zvonarić of DevianTom. When you look at it from the side (or from the front, based on your perspective, really), you will notice that it’s shaped like Facebook’s famous “f.”

It’s basically just like any bed, except instead of a headboard, there’s sort of a mini-workstation. Just plug in your computer, hop into the seat, and start networking away. Of course, this could also be a bed for workaholics, although I doubt they’ll want it shaped like a horizontal “f.”

According to Tomislav, the Fbed is a “conceptual multipractical bed design that would allow you always to be up to date and close to your online friends even when you sleep. The idea is that you may hop in front of your screen directly from your bed when you wake up, and (the) inverse when you get tired and want to go sleep…”

Like most headbands, SleepPhones are made of lightweight and washable material and grip around your noggin’ firmly enough so that they won’t fall off without causing discomfort, even if you lie on your side. And there’s also some pretty cool concepts and designs for floor mats-slash-beds like the Hilly.

The Hilly was designed by Elise Fouin for flooring company Tarkett. It sort of reminds me of the Land Peel, which was a floormat with pre-cut furniture that you could fold up when you needed it. You can’t fold stuff up to eventually sit on, but what you can do is inflate it (yes, you read that right, inflate!) to give rise to five little hills.

Or you could just, you know, enjoy the Hilly in its un-inflated form: flat and cushy-feeling, I presume. The Hilly is comprised of nine layers of vinyl flooring material, with a balloon system embedded inside it for the hills to come alive when air is pumped into it.

Sadly you can’t buy this one in any store. It was made by rpaxton for his brother, which makes him the best bro in the world. And if my own brother is reading this, I hope he gets the hint.

Can’t get to sleep? It’s like not being able to get a game cartridge to play on this system, so do what you have to do. Instead of removing and blowing on the cartridge, just open your window behind the bed and lift the covers so it gets a good breeze going into this soft console. That should do it.

Or you could just blow the whole amount on one bed.

Yes, you read that right. The HiCan (“High-Fidelity Canopy”) bed goes for $60,000, which is as steep as steep gets when it comes to beds.

So what does the HiCan have under the covers that can justify such a price? For starters, it’s got retractable privacy blinds, so you can just skip installing blinds on your windows if you plan on putting the bed next to it. (But really, why would you?)

Aside from that, it also has its own video projector with a retractable screen at the foot of the bed, a state-of-the-art sound system, a multimedia PC, a gaming console, and a pair of reading lights for some late-night reading. Now all it needs is a refrigerator, a microwave, and the kitchen sink to make it worth its asking price.

You can select from eight available colors when you place your order for the bed at HiCan’s site (but really, I think you should just go buy a car with your money. Or better yet, put it in the bank.) You might have to wait a while before you can actually get to lay in your luxury bed because there’s still a waiting list going for the bed.

I don’t leave them in my ears on purpose when I’m sleeping, but I usually nod off after only a couple of songs. I’ve woken up the next morning with sore ears (and a bit of frustration, because yes, I know it’s not good to keep pumping my ears with sound all throughout the night), because the regular earphones are obviously not meant to be laid on – but these bedphones are. Using moldable memory wire earhooks, and soft foam cushions, they’re designed for comfort even if you’re lying on them.

If you want to risk it, or if you are the boss looking for some nappy time, this chair from Thanko is perfect. The thing looks like a normal enough office chair in standard mode. Recline the seat back into the horizontal position and flip the legs rest out and you get a bed to sleep in.

You won’t want to lean too much though or you might end up on the floor. The chair sells for 49,800 yen (appx. $599 USD) with tax included and can be ordered right now if you are in Japan. If you live elsewhere, I bet you are out of luck.

If I had this bed as a kid my mom wouldn’t have had to yell at me to fix my bed every morning. On second though if I had a Nintendo bed when I was a kid it could only have been a Famicom bed.

The design team of Keung Caputo created four foldable suites, each with a cardboard bed, pillow and intricate cardboard details, cut with lasers and backlit with LEDs. Of course, the biggest problem with the cardboard hotel is that while your upper body is protected from the elements (unless it rains), your legs stick out. Eh, whaddya want from a cardboard box?

Each of the four cardboard suites features a different theme, and a welcoming, warm environment for its guests. I think I’d stay in this neon purple room with a cut out of what looks like the Taco Bell chihuahua.

According to the artists “Once (a room is) chosen, the selected hotel suite will be set up on location. Within seconds, what looked like a stack of cardboard, turns into a habitation.”

The Five-Stars Cardboard Hotel was recently featured at New York’s Miyako Yoshinaga gallery, but has since moved on. If you’re lucky, you might find the suites at highway underpass near you.

The connected rings of EVA foam that make up the Sleepsuit could fit in a briefcase or bag. The soft foam is coupled with strategically placed padding, making taking an impromptu nap easy as pie. This suit has been tested in the top four sleeping positions, that is: face up, face down, fetal position, and passed out at your desk.

The design of the Sleepsuit allows for a constant airflow, ensuring that you won’t be suffocating while snoozing. The Sleepsuit negates any time spent on preparing to take naps. That’s what Jessee found out while trying out polyphasic sleeping, replacing a full night’s sleep with four to six evenly spaced 30-45 minute naps.

You can get into it in under a minute the sleep almost anywhere. Sounds kind of interesting, though I’d stay away from polyphasic sleeping. On the other hand, power-naps are certainly a good thing when you work long hours – or when you’re just plain lazy.

This design is being made available through a Swedish store and I don’t know if it’s official, but it comes with a matching pillowcase and duvet cover. The pillowcase has got your favorite iPod on it, while the duvet has got a giant screen with all of those nice icons.

After Kayla Kromer’s hamburger bed, she decided to make something more vintage and retro, like a Star Wars themed-bed.

This bed has a bunch of nifty features, like LEDs that light-up like a Christmas tree and a hideaway sleeve for your keyboard. For many Star Wars geeks like me, the Millennium Falcon is one of the most important ships in the whole Star Wars universe, since the main characters spent so much time aboard it.

The only thing that I wonder about is what would a Star Destroyer bed look like? Which one would you prefer? Personally, I think that the most important ship in Star Wars was Boba Fett’s Slave 1.

The madmen over at MotoArt have taken the engine nacell from a decommissioned 747 jet engine and turned it curvy metal headboard. The bed has an 84″ diameter round mattress and boxspring that set perfectly inside the bifurcated engine jacket. And to make sure you don’t slice your head open on the aluminum edge, they’ve thoughtfully cover the sharp metal edges with some Plexiglas. For each bed, MotoArt cleans up the engine cowl’s paintjob and carefully polishes each one to a shiny mirror finish so you can look at yourself first thing in the morning.
